1. To provide assessment and case management of children and young people with complex neuro-disability and special needs. The Consultant has overall responsibility for their own caseload, which may have children from across the borough.
2. To supervise and teach Specialty Grade Paediatricians (SAS) and Specialty Trainees carrying out assessment and management of children with complex needs.
3. Provide clinical input to multi-disciplinary clinics/meetings for the assessment of children with complex disability and special needs.
4. Provide medical advice to Local Authority Children’s Services according to statutory legislation and guidance for Looked after Children. Clinical work may be carried out by the Speciality Doctors but children with complex Neurodisability remain on the Consultant caseload and they will have overall responsibility.

Consultant Radiologist with interest Neuroradiology


This is a new post within the Imaging Service, Clinical Support and Imaging (CSI), Clinical Management Group, at UHL. The applicant will have undergone subspecialty training in neuroradiology.

The post holder will join a team of 12 Diagnostic Neuroradiology and Head & Neck Radiologists and will work closely with the General Radiologists particularly in Emergency Radiology (ER). The post holder will take part in the provision of specialist neuroradiology, emergency neuroradiology imaging, participate in the multidisciplinary provision of neuro-oncology services and participate in clinical-radiological meetings.

The neuroradiology group is based at Leicester Royal Infirmary although a base site at Leicester General Hospital or the Glenfield Hospital would be considered. Home working is available to all radiology consultants at UHL and a proportion of DCC/SPA can be delivered off site by negotiation.

The post holder will join a team of 12 neuro- and head and neck radiologists to support the continuing development of imaging within UHL as a whole. The post holder will join the existing on call rota (currently 1 in 9) delivering acute neuro imaging to UHL.

The post holder will join the comprehensive diagnostic body rota 1 in 30 plus delivering diagnostic oncology/Abdominal reporting across the UHL, subject to required skills if they are available.

It is expected that the post holder will take part in the provision of emergency imaging across the UHL.

This is a new consultant post. The post holder will be expected to work closely in the team with the existing radiologists to support the continuing development of imaging within UHL as a whole.

The appointment will be whole time. Any consultant who is unable for personal reasons, to work whole time, will be eligible to be considered for the post. If such a person is appointed, modification of the job content will be discussed on a personal basis in consultation with consultant colleagues.


PRINCIPAL ELEMENTS OF THE POST WILL BE:-
• To undertake programmed activities in Oncology and Gastrointestinal imaging. Opportunities for development of the existing service and they will be supported where they reflect and support the needs of the local population and the development plans of the trust.
• To support the provision of imaging in oncology and haematology.
• To assist oncologists with radiotherapy.
• To review oncology imaging performed as an emergency within and out of hours.
• To lead/take part in MDTs including lymphoma/Myeloma depending on the needs of department

To contribute to in-patient ultrasound imaging if needed
• To contribute to an interventional list for US and CT guided biopsies/drainages if with suitable Intervention skill.
• To contribute to the training of the Specialist Registrars on the East Midland Deanery (South) radiology training scheme.
• To supervise and train skill-mix radiographers, sonographers and non-medical staff in their present and anticipated roles.
• Supervise junior medical staff.
• To support and participate in audit, research, teaching and administration.
• To support emergency imaging across UHL.
• To take part in the diagnostic on-call rota within UHL and assist in the provision of weekend radiological support for the Service.

• The post-holder will be expected to undertake the Trust Corporate and Directorate specific
Induction and competency Programmes appropriate to role.

• To maintain their continuing professional development (CPD) to be able to successfully revalidate. As per the Trust requirement the successful candidate will be required to have an annual appraisal and attend / keep fully up to date with statutory and mandatory training as stipulated.
