The Job
Are you passionate about creating compelling, creative video stories? As a videographer/video editor for The Straits Times Video team, you are responsible for capturing high-quality video footage and creating visually engaging content for our audiences across web, app, and social platforms.
From documentaries to news packages and short-form vertical videos, you will be involved in crafting video content, filming, and editing videos to meet the specific requirements of projects. You are technically adept in operating video equipment, have a keen eye for detail, and demonstrate creativity in framing shots and choosing angles. Additionally, you should be proficient in video editing software and have a solid understanding of news storytelling techniques.
You are able to flourish in a highly collaborative environment, actively working with cross-functional teams and the wider newsroom in producing, for instance, visual content for interactive stories.
Curiosity, resourcefulness and a willingness to learn are critical, as is a desire to stay up to date on the latest news, audience and content trends. It’s a bonus if you thrive on the rush of working to deadlines.
Job Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Craft creative visual content for target audiences on various platforms and experiment with concepts and formats
- Plan, set up and execute video shoots/production and broadcast according to visual concept, including lighting and audio requirements of on-location shoots
- Use video footage, sound, motion graphics and various forms of media to tell a story in a creative and impactful way
- Edit video footage, review and revise drafts to create a cohesive and visually appealing final product
- Incorporate music, voice-overs, and other audio elements as necessary
- Collaborate with video team members, journalists in the wider newsroom and cross-functional teams to develop visual projects
- Stay on top of latest news, audience and content trends
- Use data analytics to optimise video projects
Job Requirements
- Relevant diploma or degree in Marketing, Communications, Advertising, Video Production, Journalism, English or any relevant fields
- Having at least two years of relevant experience is an advantage; fresh graduates are also welcome
- Ability to plan, set up, light, and prepare audio requirements for shoots
- Solid understanding of shot composition, framing, and storytelling techniques
- Experience in video editing software, such as Adobe Premiere Pro, After Effects, or similar tools.
- Be savvy with social media platforms such as YouTube, Instagram and TikTok
- Ability to be highly collaborative
- Ability to produce quality work in a fast-paced environment on tight deadlines
- Strong organizational and time management skills to meet project deadlines.
- Experience with operating drones an advantage
- Ability to write scripts, present on-camera and do voice-overs an advantage
- Have a growth mindset, with a willingness to learn and be nimble
