• In particular the post holder will focus on:
1. Leading the development of business information and intelligence, particularly the collation, analysis and co-ordination of information relating to the activity, performance and data quality of services within BSPS
1. Providing specialist advice on pathology activity data and the development of laboratory performance data sets and business information
2. Managing and training staff in the most effective and efficient way whilst ensuring the provision of a high-quality information support service across BSPS
1. Ensuring that all business and administrative processes within the Business Office are fully documented

KEY TASKS & Responsibilities:
Information Management
• Provide expert advice and be the lead for all Path Manager and LIMS activity and data reports and queries
• Develop and maintain a clear business and administrative support function for BSPS
• To provide support to BSPS to ensure that the full range of business implications are collated (including, finance, workforce, efficiency, performance and productivity)
• Working to a timetable to manage and co-ordinate the Business Office team’s workload to ensure the monthly provision of activity data and information for commissioners and for internal use
• Develop a clear process for recording and reporting information, ensuring information governance compliance
• To lead and advise the team in the following areas;
• timely and accurate provision of information:-
• Utilisation of management information software and interrogation of the LIMS to obtain relevant information to support variance analysis and respond to queries
• To ensure detailed SOPs are in place and updated as required for all key tasks within the Business Office
• Regularly undertake audit of data quality and Path Manager performance
Financial Information Monitoring
• Oversee the maintenance of internal income and expenditure records including the provision of accurate monthly, quarterly and annual performance reports to the Executive Team and departments
• To provide monthly variance reports and review reports prepared by the finance team ensuring appropriate action is taken to address any anomalies
• Develop and maintain, in conjunction with the Pathology Business Manager and GP Liaison, effective monitoring systems for Service Level Agreements with both NHS and non-NHS commissioners
• Ensure arrangements are in place with Trusts and Finance departments for invoicing private activity, including private patients, private GPs and for the receipt of cash payments
• Take responsibility for providing timely backup information and reports which support BSPS invoices with respect to contractual external income
Staff Management
• Direct line management responsibility of the data and activity team, including undertaking reviews and appraisals, recruitment of new staff, setting team and individual targets and objectives and managing, recording and reporting annual leave and sickness absence, including contingency arrangements to cover for staff absences and annual leave within the team
• Oversee the provision of an efficient and effective administrative function including developing contingency plans
• Promote staff development through regular performance reviews and appraisal processes, including identification of training needs and objectives
• Set objectives for the Business Office which reflect BSPS strategic objectives and monitor progress, performance and attainment
• Deputise for the Pathology Business Manager and GP Liaison as and when required
Additional responsibilities
• To understand, agree and review the performance needs relating to host Trusts, the data information needs of the hosting Trusts, ICBs and other external contracts on a regular basis
• Maintain an up to date knowledge of Frimley Health, Royal Surrey Hospital, Royal Berkshire Hospital, Ashford & St Peters Hospital and Surrey & Sussex Healthcare NHS Foundation Trusts NHS Policies that affect the business of BSPS
• Ensure that staff follow and adhere to all employment policies and procedures
• Undertake R&D activities to support service improvement, lean management and to review and develop methodologies for data analysis
