The Team
The Business Operations division executes several enabling capabilities that maintain the foundation’s operational infrastructure and programmatic impact. We strive to enable the foundation’s mission and impact-driven work by maintaining an efficient, well-run global organization where employees can thrive and make their best contributions. Our goal is to provide innovative and scalable solutions to support the overall priorities, allocation, and leadership agenda with the highest standards of integrity and operational excellence! The division comprises Information Technology (IT); Facilities, Events, Travel, and Security (FETS); Grants and Contracts Services (GCS); the Office of the COO (OCOO) inclusive of Global Business Design (GBD). The broader OCOO has a remit for division effectiveness as well as playing a critical role in enabling initiatives with increasing complexity and need for collaboration, design, and implementation across operations functions. This team will support and enable the division to carry out its remit of optimizing operations to facilitate programmatic impact by providing solutions that keep up our evolving business needs.
Your Role
The Deputy Director, GBD will play a pivotal role in leading the development of key initiatives that line up with our organizational mission and goals. This involves finding the best possible opportunities for impact, designing programs, and setting long-term objectives. This leadership position is tasked with spearheading planning and execution efforts to establish and optimize solutions that focus on critical challenge points and opportunities across the organization’s business operations. Additionally, this role will build capabilities of Senior/Program Managers carrying out the work. As a leader on the GBD team, the Deputy Director ensures that business improvements are deeply rooted in addressing fundamental causes, meticulously designed for effectiveness, and implemented with a focus on widespread adoption and long-term sustainability.
What You’ll Do
Strategic Leadership and Execution: Lead the strategic planning and execution process to enable and implement solutions across all global presences to address critical areas for operational improvement. Ensure that initiatives align with our organization's global impact goals.
Transformative Change Management: You will work closely across operations, programs, and regional and country leadership to drive essential transformations focusing on addressing the underlying causes of challenges, reducing operational disruptions, and strengthening our ability to lead and maintain change in alignment with regional and national contexts.
Leadership and Team Management: Leading and mentoring teams, fostering an environment of innovation and ongoing improvement. This includes guiding staff in the creation and launch of important projects and initiatives. Model and coach effective decision-support, inclusive behaviors & actions; address escalated issues in a timely fashion.
Provide Expert Advisory and Decision Support: As a key strategic advisor, you will offer guidance on decision-making, risk mitigation, and engage with executive leadership (ELT) to navigate complex challenges locally and globally.
Cross-Functional Leadership: You will lead and unify cross-functional teams utilizing your extensive experience to drive meaningful changes at all levels of the organization. Serve as a trusted thought partner in the field of business design and philanthropy, contributing to the broader discourse on effective philanthropic strategies and innovative solutions to global challenges.
Sustainability and Impact Acceleration: Prioritize the development and implementation of solutions that are sustainable and contribute to our mission of making a global impact.
Critical Thinking: Foresees future needs and adjusts priorities and resources, employing a strategic approach to problem-solving and decision-making based on comprehensive analysis.
Systems Thinking: Understand the formal and informal intersections and interdependencies to frame the problem in the best way, evaluate issues, see downstream affects, and identify future implications across the end-to-end system to help prioritize solutions.

Your Experience
5+ years of experience directly engaging with ELT either through key partner management or decision support.
10+ years related professional experience leading teams and a track record implementing large scale and/or global change.
Demonstrated practical global experience, including a deep understanding of the diverse cultural, socio-economic, and political landscapes.
Proven strength in structured problem solving, process improvement, and strategic business planning. Possess the ability to easily identify and communicate framework to analyze issues and achieve results.
Expertise in process and program management, continuous improvement, and organizational agility.
Practical experience is assessing scope and complexity of initiatives in order to allocate resources considering timing, aptitude, strengths/capabilities, etc.
Strong interpersonal skills and experience navigating cross-cultural environments with empathy and respect!
Must be able to legally work in the country where this position is located without visa sponsorship.
The salary range for this role is $249,600.00 to $386,900.00 USD. As a mission-driven organization, we strive to balance competitive pay with our mission. New hires salaries are typically between the range minimum and the salary range midpoint. Actual placement in the range will depend on a candidate’s job-related skills, experience, and expertise, as evaluated during the interview process.
