The Endpoint Security Engineer is responsible for the implementation and maintain enterprise level Endpoint security solutions. The key focus is to develop security related workflows, process and automation procedures. Proactively identify gaps, risks and issues and escalate to management accordingly. Remains current with new security technologies and recommends changes or actions to management as appropriate. Provide end-user support in the area relating to security as directed by management and work on multiple functions of high complexity.

• Provide escalated troubleshooting and support assistance for endpoint security technologies as well as for native and 3rd party security and endpoint management tools
• Provide capacity planning and performance monitoring to sustain and improve mobility service availability
• Ensure thorough testing of solutions for functionality and compatibility
• Coordinate service/support needs with vendors, application support teams, and internal teams through effective partnership, collaboration and communication
• Provide change request leadership for the deployment of application or infrastructure related changes
• Participate in application troubleshooting and security incident problem resolution with other infrastructure teams, including application, storage, messaging, and server teams.
• Represent the team in change, incident and problem management calls and manage request queues
• Maintain and define hardware, software, and configuration standards (Operational Runbooks and Playbooks)
• Partner with other Product Infrastructure teams to apply standards and policies relevant to operational excellence
• Participate in on call rotation where necessary.
• Respond rapidly to unplanned events, including after-hours for critically urgent issues.
• Support Incident Response Team to help in analyzing, forensics, containing, and coordinating technical elements of response
• Prepare monthly or quarterly reports which summarize all of the vulnerability statistics for the entire enterprise level endpoints.
• Manage the procedures, the tools, and serve as a subject matter expert for antivirus, anti-malware, and intrusion prevention processes and technologies deployed on endpoint devices
• Manage the process and serve as a subject matter expert for hardening the configuration of various endpoint devices including utilizing appropriate group policy settings, file permissions and access controls to increase endpoint security.
• Maintains expertise to function as subject matter expert in multiple technical and business disciplines
• Provide leadership towards accomplishing major upgrades and new product onboarding deployments in the area of Endpoint Security.
• Coordinate and expedite support cases with endpoint security technology vendor and product management teams.
• Familiarity with best practices for policy and mobility standards
• Device Policy configuration (iOS and Android)
• Workplace Persona policy configuration and troubleshooting.
• Compliance policy configuration and troubleshooting

Senior Security Application Administrator

Office of Information Technology

The Senior Security Application Administrator directly supports the technology needs of Brown University’s Department of Public Safety, a sworn, fully-functioning law enforcement agency operating 24/7 to protect and serve the Brown community.  The Senior Security Application Administrator will serve as the senior position leading the day-to-day operation of the Application Support Specialists and is the senior application administrator. This position will have a dotted line report to the Department of Public Safety.

In coordination with the Office of Information Technology and Department of Public Safety; the Senior Security Application Administrator will:

• lead the day-to-day operation of the Application Support Specialists; mentoring, providing general guidance, and supporting escalated application problems

• serve as the senior application administrator

• assist in establishing the the roadmap to advance the Public Safety Application Suites

• leads implementation of a Self-Service Access Control and Reporting Portal

• assist in partnering with other internal teams to improve application integration and automation with other University Core Systems.  

• assist with compliance reporting

The Senior Security Application Administrator is responsible for administering the suite of Applications, Security Systems, and Public Safety Technology across the University which is used by the Department of Public Safety in the safety and security of Brown University Assets and the Brown University Community.  These suites include Access Control Systems, IP Video Security Systems, License Plate Recognition Systems, Computer-Aided Dispatch Software, Incident Reporting/Records Management Software, Mobile Data Systems, and Communication Dispatch Systems.  

While supporting the Applications, Security Systems, and Public Safety Technology, the Senior Security Application Administrator will look to evaluate existing systems, make recommendations for improvements, streamline processes and procedures, and serve as a resource to technical and non-technical users of these applications.   All tasks shall be performed in accordance with best practices, Public Safety Technology Standard Operating Procedures and Design Standards.  

Application Administrators are required to participate in an on-call rotation schedule.  While on-call, the Application Administrators must be available to answer calls/emails after normal working hours and on weekends/holidays depending on the rotation order.  This position requires flexible hours, including days, nights, and weekends.

Job Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree preferred

• 3+ years of experience with application support or administration to include some of the following:

  • Enterprise Public Safety Systems

  • Public Safety Application Suites 

  • Public Safety Technology 

  • Security Systems

• Application Support or Administration experience for Public Safety Application Suites, Security Systems, or Public Safety Technology required

• Lead experience preferred

Responsibilities

- Ensure that our applications are designed and implemented to the highest security and privacy standards thus maintaining and enhancing user trust.

- Design and perform tests and check cases to analyze design, architectures, existing systems services, operating systems, networks and applications from a security perspective, via black box testing, code reviews, automation, threat modeling and research. This is to meet confidentiality, integrity, authentication, availability, authorisation, and nonrepudiation standards.

- Translate requirements into test plan, write and execute test scripts or codes in line with standards and procedures to determine vulnerability to attacks.

- Certify infrastructure components, systems and applications that meet security standards.

- Discover security issues that appear under new threat scenarios, support incident response, forensics, remediation in a cross-functional environment driving towards incident resolution.

- Provide guidance to other teams and junior security engineers, drive security initiatives, and lead cross-functional projects focused on improving the security posture of company's products and systems.

Qualifications

- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or other relevant majors.

- 4+ years of security engineering experience such as design review, threat modeling, security mitigation development, security tooling development or privacy engineering.

- Advanced knowledge and understanding in various disciplines: web application security, mobile app security, network security, operating system internals and hardening, applied cryptography, cloud computing. You're expected to be an expert in at least one of these areas.

- Solid experience in writing and reviewing code in at least one of the following programming languages: JavaScript (Node JS), Go, Python, Java, C++, Rust.

- Strong problem-solving skills and excellent debugging / troubleshooting skills.
