The Legal Counsel SMDS, Malaysia will report to the Head of Legal Malaysia (“HOL”). The successful candidate is responsible for provision of a broad suite of legal services to SMDS and ensure compliance with laws and regulations.
The successful candidate will serve as a primary focal point/member of the SMDS leadership team and is expected to be a strategic business partner. This position is expected to coordinate and collaborate with other Shell Legal Malaysia colleagues, as well as integrate with other legal/functional colleagues and subject matter legal experts, and work across business lines and departments as needs and priorities may require from time to time.

Job Description
AirAsia X is seeking a skilled and experienced Legal Counsel to join our team on a 6-month contract basis. The Legal Counsel will provide comprehensive legal support to the company, primarily focusing on commercial contracts, regulatory compliance, and general legal matters related to the airline industry.
Key Responsibilities:
Review, draft, and negotiate a wide range of commercial agreements, including but not limited to aircraft leases, supplier contracts, and service agreements.
Advise on legal matters related to aviation regulations, compliance, and licensing requirements.
Provide legal support and guidance to various departments within the organization, including operations, finance, and procurement.
Conduct legal research and stay updated on industry developments, regulatory changes, and best practices.
Assist in resolving legal disputes, claims, and other matters as they arise.
Collaborate with external legal counsel and other stakeholders as necessary.
Assist in the development and implementation of company policies and procedures to ensure compliance with applicable laws and regulations.
Support other legal initiatives and projects as assigned by the General Counsel or senior management.

Experience and Qualifications required
Law degree and professional legal qualification with minimum 6-7 years post-qualification experience working in a law firm or legal department of a medium to large international corporation.
Fluent written and spoken English & ability to speak and/or read Chinese will be a plus point.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills, particularly in explaining legal concepts and issues in simple language to non-lawyers and providing succinct, accurate and comprehensible legal advice. Knowledge of the legal areas relevant to e-commerce and digital including contracting and procurement
Ability to understand and take account of business drivers and needs, and to draft contract with appropriate understanding and interpretation of the business and commercial intentions
Strong influencing, negotiating and facilitation skills
Exposure to international civil and/or common law contracts
Ability to develop and sustain relationships with clients at all levels and in a range of cultures.
Duration: 6-month contract, with the possibility of extension based on business needs and performance.

The Legal function at CAE is a strategic partner to the business and plays a critical role in providing sound and practical legal advice to management and stakeholders across the organization. We are looking for a motivated and capable Regional Legal Counsel to join the Legal team and support our Civil Aviation business in the region. Reporting directly to the Director Legal, Civil - APAC, you will advise the Civil Aviation business on a wide range of legal, compliance and contractual matters, and play an important role in helping to establish and embed the processes and practices of the Legal department.
