The Opportunity
This position works out of our Minnetonka, MN location in the Heart Failure Division. In Abbott’s Heart Failure (HF) business, we’re developing solutions to diagnose, monitor and manage heart failure, allowing people to restore their health and get on with their lives.
Under the direction of the department manager, the Product Surveillance Analyst may perform two different functions within the complaint handling. One role would be that of complaint investigation management and includes all activities pertaining to product complaints for SJM. This includes, but is not limited to: receiving and investigating reports of world-wide complaints/events on a variety of products; entering information into the complaint database; independently determining and filing appropriate medical devices reports with various regulatory agencies; participating on cross-functional teams; and providing information on product complaints, including data extracted from the complaint database to various teams (e.g. Regulatory, Quality Engineering).
Another role of the Product Surveillance Analyst is that of performing evaluations of returned complaint products, coordinating product testing/analysis with other departments and external consultants, preparing technical reports of findings and customer letters, operating and maintaining the Product Surveillance Laboratory and equipment, and collecting and evaluating analysis data. The Product Surveillance Analyst will also be able to perform trending of complaint data in either role as requested by management, including preparation of trending charts utilizing the complaint database and other programs, in support of the department Data Analyst. Depending on the site location of the PS Analyst, they may perform both complaint investigations and product analysis.

The Opportunity
Our Minnetonka, MN location currently has an opportunity for a Manager, Product Development.
Responsible for effective management of a team to achieve business objectives within a function, program, or therapeutic area. Plan and implement product development projects, and provide technical leadership and supervision to others. Ensure program objectives are determined and met, logistics are effectively coordinated and budgets are adhered to. Act as cross-functional liaison to ensure designs and products are meeting customer needs and regulatory requirements. Has financial responsibilities of people, capital resources, and is accountable for large and/or several small to medium scope division program responsibilities.
WHAT YOU’LL DO
Manage development work for multiple projects.
Provide technical guidance concerning use conditions, designs, risks, processing techniques, and materials for project planning.
Oversee and may analyze to develop design specifications and performance requirements.
Guide direct reports to select and use techniques to solve problems and make sound design recommendations.
Coordinate and manage resources to meet detailed project timelines and milestones.
Provide input to project proposals and budgeting.
Work with outside consultants, vendors, and the medical community.
Ensure that the quality system requirements are being met.
Hire and retain a diverse, highly qualified staff and provide ongoing performance feedback. Set goals that align with department plans and manage the execution of goals through coaching and mentoring. Maintains a safe and professional work environment
Comply with U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) regulations, other regulatory requirements, Company policies, operating procedures, processes, and task assignments. Maintains positive and cooperative communications and collaboration with all levels of employees, customers, contractors, and vendors
Provide leadership and mentoring to other engineers, and technicians, and is a hands-on participant as necessary in the areas below:
Qualifications
Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical or Biomedical Engineering
Minimum 8 years in R&D engineering or related field
Experience designing and/or developing processes to manufacture medical devices required, preferably interventional cardiology devices
Experience with a variety of manufacturing processes and designing for manufacturability
Experience working in a broader enterprise/cross-division business unit model
Ability to work in a highly matrixed and geographically diverse business environment. Ability to work effectively within a team in a fast-paced, changing environment
Strong leadership skills, verbal and written communication with the ability to effectively communicate at multiple levels in the organization
Strong organizational, planning, and follow-up skills and ability to hold others accountable. Multitasks, prioritizes and meets deadlines in a timely manner.
Ability to travel approximately 10%, including internationally
Preferred Qualifications
Minimum 3 years managing a functional team, setting goals, managing projects, hiring employees, and providing positive and constructive feedback to build positive relationships and improve business results
Masters Degree in Mechanical or Biomedical Engineering.

We are seeking a high caliber Microbiologist II who will be responsible to involve learning the application of microbiological concepts to the manufacturing process of a medical device and understanding process monitoring to maintain microbiological quality of the final device.
What You’ll Work On
Facility and routine production microbiological support: Provide Facility Microbiological support including EM, BSC testing, DI systems and compressed air testing; Record review of routine microbiological test results; Technical support for facility issues in the areas of, environmental monitoringand microbiological methods; Conduct routine out of specification investigations; Develop and execute controlled access environment, deionized water, compressed and air qualifications; Assess manufacturing process changes for microbial impact; Complete environmental disturbance reports; and Complete annual controlled access environment reports.
Technical sterilization and microbiological laboratory methods support: Routine release of manufactured product; Data analysis of sterilization processes; Writes protocols and reports for qualifications for sterilization and microbiological test methods; Conduct new product assessments for sterilization adoption or validation; Assist in the development of sterilization cycles; Develop laboratory test methods and train technicians as appropriate; Works with technicians in conducting these qualifications; Complete LAL sampling analysis; and Develop microbiological specifications for incoming components
Documentation: Ensures correct documentation linkage flow for microbiologically related documents.
Writes new or updates current microbiologically related documents. Maintains understanding of applicable standards and applies them to qualifications and test methods.
Writes protocols and reports for qualifications for sterilization and microbiological test methods.
Writes appropriate validation protocols; performs or oversees validations for new technologies, equipment, and/or test methods; and creates documentation for implementation.
Technical Training: Provides training to laboratory technicians on new equipment or new test procedures and Provides training in the areas of sterilization validation and sterilization processes.
Other Projects as Directed by Department Manager.
Support all Company initiatives as identified by management and in support of Quality Management.
Systems (QMS), Environmental Management Systems (EMS), and other regulatory requirements.
Complies with U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) regulations, other regulatory requirements

Education And Experience You’ll Bring
Minimum 5 years With a Bachelor's degree, 5 years in a medical device/pharmaceutical, or related industry, with work experience in microbiology and/or sterilization and relevant microbiology laboratory experience.
Minimum 2 years With a Master's degree, 2 years medical device/pharmaceutical or related industry, with experience in microbiology and/or sterilization and relevant microbiology laboratory experience. Demonstrates professional skills with excellent written communication. Able to work with minimal supervision and ability to maintain regular and predictable attendance. Demonstrated excellent troubleshooting skills in routine out of specification situations at the Microbiologist I level. Experience working in a broader enterprise/cross-division business unit model preferred. Ability to work in a highly matrixed and geographically diverse business environment. Ability to work within a team and as an individual contributor in a fast-paced, changing environment. Ability to leverage and/or engage others to accomplish projects. Abbott Vascular provides innovative, minimally invasive, and cost-effective products for treatment of vascular disease.
As a part of the Abbott Analytical Chemistry Department, the individual will perform qualitative and quantitative analytical analyses in a Quality Control cGMP laboratory. The position will support CRM combination medical device product release and drug stability programs.
