Professor Simon Ringer heads a leading research group in the field of materials engineering. The general theme of the team’s research is to advance frontiers of the relationships between the processing of materials, their microstructure and their engineering performance. A particular focus is in additive manufacturing (AM). Specifically, the AM processing interests span powder bed fusion and solid-state technologies; microstructurally, the ambition is to exert multi-scale control from the macro to the mm to the nm and through to the atomic-scale, as characterised via advanced microscopy; and the interest in property space spans the mechanical, electrical and magnetic.
