Overall purpose of the job:
To conceive, research, write and edit communications in a range of formats and to develop a relationship with the Pfizer client that helps to build a true strategic partnership.
As Medical Lead you must be passionate about Science and Healthcare communications, be an experienced medical and creative writer and take a leadership role in medical strategy within a fast-growing agency.
You will be a confident communicator and genuine team player with a sharp, strategic, scientific mind and a love of ideas.
You will enjoy managing and mentoring with a small team of medical writers to inspire, develop and deliver projects that are supported by strong strategic and conceptual thinking.
You will have an eye for detail and the confidence to take ownership of the brands you oversee.

Accuracy and deadlines are also key drivers for you. You will have the ability to research, strategically plan and write both technical and creative content for a range of marketing collateral across a broad spectrum of health-related brands and audiences.
You will be required to apply and share your knowledge and skills with CoLab clients and internal colleagues to help them solve problems and to help build client/agency trust and relationships.
Role & Responsibilities
Requirements & personal attributes:
• Life sciences degree (preferably a Masters, MD, PhD or BPharm)
• 10+ years’ experience as a Senior Medical Writer in an advertising agency, or in the pharmaceutical sector with the ability to translate complex medical and scientific concepts into articulate and concise content.
• Understanding of the medical and pharmaceutical sectors and codes/guidelines across Australia and New Zealand (Medicines Australia, TGA, Medical Technology Association of Australia etc)
• Proficient computer skills, particularly across Microsoft Office and Teams • Excellent communication skills and attention to detail • Ability to think strategically, creatively and innovatively.
• Solution-focused outlook for delivering great work that will wow Publicis CoLab clients.
• Proactive and committed to taking tasks through to completion with a strong sense of personal ownership.
• Flexible, able to work collaboratively or independently.
• A team player & leader
• Work closely with other members of the Creative, Strategy, Account service and Data, Digital and Media teams to develop engaging, medically, and scientifically accurate communications tailored to the audience.

Key accountabilities
Development:
• Attend client meetings to gain an understanding of their needs and strategies.
• Work alone and/or with the creative department and copy team to help generate and develop communications in line with client briefs.
• Demonstrates comprehensive writing and presentation skills (written and verbal)
• Offering continuous feedback on working practices to help develop protocols that promote higher standards of work across Publicis CoLab
Medical writing:
• Ensuring that all work is both "on brand" and Code compliant.
• Medical writing for a variety of formats (including but not limited to): promotional materials, educational material and programmes, conference/meeting reports, slides sets, advisory board minutes and primary manuscripts. The target audience includes GPs, specialist’s physicians, nurses, pharmacists, patients and carers.
• Reading/analysis of clinical papers for relevant citations and data • Referencing of agency-produced materials to clinical papers/sources
• Proof-reading & copyediting of all materials.
• Ensure accuracy, balance, consistency, clarity, appropriate tonality, and maximum engagement.
• Liaison with KOL and other HCPs to deliver projects
• Background research on new disease areas for the business
• Communication and proactive contact with clients (both marketing and medical staff) when required.
• Writing appropriate content based on knowledge of all media channels and target audience touchpoints.
Medical strategy:
• Influences the client to achieve brand objectives through scientific, strategic thinking.
• Demonstrates and applies strategic knowledge and understanding of assigned brands(s), therapeutic area(s), and competitive environment.
• Shows resourcefulness and thoroughness in developing tactical plans (if applicable)
• Reviews literature and competitive information to continually expand understanding of strategic direction required for CoLab clients and their brands.
• Presents complex data or messages in a strategically clear, succinct, compelling manner to clients.
• Understands the brand: key issues, market strategy and positioning.
• Contributes to communication strategies/key issues identification (e.g. SWOT analyses and brand platform briefs)
• Serves as point of authority and/or source of strategic advice for therapeutic areas.
• Effectively analyzes and interprets scientific data and recommends & implements strategic & non-traditional programming solutions.
• Defines, identifies and works with clients and faculty on the strategic development of medical education materials and promotional material of all kinds.
• Develops written materials and slides that meet strategic program objectives.
• Manages the strategic development and completion of program syllabi, including writing, editing, faculty involvement and production.
• Leads science-based client workshops.
• Participates in meetings and strategic discussions with client (product marketing and clinical teams)
• Participates and assists in proposal design and development as it relates to science.
• Owns and communicates medical strategic recommendations to various internal audiences as needed.
