APPOINTMENT OF IT TECHNICIAN (Volunteer Summer Internship) - REF – 240480

The IT Services Team are responsible for the support, maintenance and installation of all IT Systems and Services including software, hardware, networks and telephony systems. The team consists of four teams; Service Desk, IT Infrastructure, IT Systems and Print Shop. All sub-teams work closely together and ensure that ITIL processes are embedded to embrace best practices with the use of Incident Management, Request Management, Change Management and Service Level Management.

The team also coordinates major IT projects from inception to completion, provides basic user training where required and manages bulk communications regarding systems and services.

IT Services have embraced a flexible approach and pride themselves on providing a friendly excellent level of service. Excellent working relationships have been built with various internal teams including Print Shop, Caretakers, Cleaners, Security and First Aid. A superb rapport has been built and maintained over many years with our customer base.

The IT Infrastructure and Technician team manage the College’s fantastic IT Infrastructure. The team are responsible for responding to incidents and requests logged by Service Desk and prioritise accordingly to meet the business and users’ needs. As well as responding to these incidents and requests, the team work proactively to maintain, enhance and improve the IT Infrastructure and work to ensuring the College’ Infrastructure is secure and patched accordingly to deal with on-going and ever present security threats. The team comprises of the IT Infrastructure Team Leader and three Infrastructure Engineers.

As an IT technician on our Summer Internship programme, you will have exposure to a wide variety of tasks relating to IT Services managed hardware and software. This covers the full IT Asset Lifecycle, utilisation of IT Service Management Tools and Liaison with key third parties. Training will be provided, however, some underlying IT knowledge is essential.

This post is fixed term until October 2024

General Maintenance:

• To support in maintaining, servicing, repairing and ensuring that all mechanical, electrical, plumbing, Architectural, LPG gas system and Building are in good working condition at all times.
• To assist in performing regular checking of the facility and taking corrective action(s) where required.
• To provide a safe, clean and functional environment as well as providing a comprehensive maintenance service to the building equipment and machines.
• To support and monitor external contractor and ensure services are carried out accordingly to the scope of work stipulated in the contract.
• To take daily / weekly / monthly utility (Electricity and Water) meter reading for all the tenants.
• To support and maintain operating logs on all equipment; record, correct, and report all faults, deficiencies and other unusual occurrences
• To assist regulatory inspection .

Safety and Security:

• To assist safety and security officer when need arise for maintaining safety equipment e.g. fire Protection system, Fire Door, CCTV, PA System, Intrusion Alarm System.
• To support safety and security officer in maintaining safety equipment in the building according to the SecCheck manual.

Responsibilities:

• Coordinate with maintenance contractors, review checklists and ensure customer D.O sign-off within the required time.
• Support Data analytics team with ongoing improvement for automation of data gathering, analysis and reporting, including fault detection and root cause identification
• Assist and maintain comprehensive energy conservation action plan with ongoing efforts and include short term, long-term goals
• Prepare operational and maintenance schedule as per the MIS
• Remote monitoring of the system operation and performance and to contact the respective site in any emergency.
• Work with internal teams and deliver the work according to the planned schedule.
• Collaborate with Internal teams regarding any controls and programming related onsite work.

Qualifications:

• Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Electrical & Electronic Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Sustainable Infrastructure Engineering (Building Services) or any related field.
• A willingness to learn and work in a team environment.
• Strong communication skills, ability to work autonomously and independently.
• Self-starter with strong analytical and troubleshooting skills.
• Ability to commit at least 5 months of internship (July 2024 - December 2024)
