This is one of 2 new posts designed to augment the teaching and training opportunities offered at the West Suffolk Hospital NHS Trust. The hospital is the unique home of the Cambridge Graduate Course in Medicine with an intake of 40 medical students each year. These students do an accelerated 4-year medical degree alongside standard Cambridge Medical students. They undertake all their clinical placements over the first 2 years of their course at the West Suffolk Hospital, and then return to the hospital for their final year of clinical studies. Students are supported by a team of Clinical Tutors, Clinical Skills Practitioners, administrators, and the Cambridge University Sub-Dean. The new education teaching fellows will have an active role in delivery of an augmented Simulation teaching program and collaborate closely with other members of the medical education team both at undergraduate and post-graduate level. They will provide clinical leadership in development and delivery of simulation training for medical students, junior doctors and where possible incorporate the wider multi-disciplinary team. Education fellows will be supported with mentorship and supervision from senior members of the medical education team from both undergraduate and post-graduate levels. They will undertake several projects over the course of the year to develop their role in medical education and at the same time will be supported in undertaking a PGCert in Medical Education (subject to successful application for a suitable course) The post design allows post holders to maintain their clinical skills by combining their education role (60%) with clinical practice in Emergency Medicine (40%). As a result, the post provides a fantastic opportunity to develop Simulation training, Medical Education design and implementation and gain a further qualification while at the same time maintaining clinical experience. The post holder will have access to all the education facilities offered to doctors in training, as well as attending external learning events including University of Cambridge Clinical School Away Days. The medical education fellow will be encouraged to disseminate their work nationally and internationally. The post is line managed by the West Suffolk Hospital Sub-Dean and will join the wider education team at the West Suffolk Hospital overseen by the Director of Medical Education. The post holder will have a named mentor from the Cambridge Graduate Course in Medicine Team and have a named clinical supervisor for their clinical work. A comprehensive induction programme will be provided, and weekly clinical training will be provided by the Emergency Medicine department. This role will offer a significant stepping stone to a doctor considering a future career in Medical Education.
