Management and Analysis
Acts as a knowledge resource within the HCS to collect data through the VISN Data Warehouse, the Austin Automation Center (AAC), VSSC, Allocation Resource Center (ARC).
Serves as a technical advisor to facility management providing guidance, recommendations and monitoring in the implementation, management and evaluation of VERA oversight programs, and ensures that the programs meet required standards and/or criteria. Conducts special studies and analysis, including feasibility studies cost/benefit analysis, etc. and submits findings, results, and recommendations in a timely, concise, an accurate manner.
Proactively works with various Councils, Sub councils and management staff coordinating cross-organizational activities and information. While maintaining an effective working relationship and promoting an effective and productive relationship with medical center staff to assure facility activities are accomplished in a timely and accurate manner without major disruption to the medical center.
Develops databases that support benchmarking of data, including financial data, patient populations and workload data. Responsible for the design and development of reports and databases, translating data into meaningful management information that is made available to a wide variety of constituents, including oversight bodies and stakeholders. The databases and special studies produce information that help evaluate/analyze, on a quantitative or qualitative basis, the effectiveness of programs in meeting and establishing goals and objectives for the VERA program. Ensures the accuracy of information delivered. Reports are tested, critiqued and updated according to established updated frequency.
Coordinates and disseminates data, special projects, and other information pertaining to relevant program responsibilities with medical center staff for review and/or action. Works closely with the Health Information Management Section (HIMS) to correct discrepancies and work through the identified areas of risk.
Conduct surveys or reviews of Departments/Service lines, as requested by the Director or staff, or identified as an area of risk, to evaluate resource utilization, workload/cost reporting, data validation activities, etc. and provides written reports on findings along with recommendations for improving program activities.
Clinical and Administrative Education
Ensure timely, appropriate, adequate data is utilized, assessed, and evaluated based on thorough understanding of objectives and functions of clinical and administrative applications and their relationship to medical center operations.
Performs clinical or administrative training on areas of improvement based on the analysis performed within VERA. Training is to be provided as needed in a group or one-on-one setting and will address specific areas of concern.
Responds to information requests from facility staff, in a timely matter, with respect to confidentiality.
Communicate factual and procedural information, orally, and in writing, to the appropriate senior manager, Board, committee, or service by preparing briefing materials, graphs, reports, cost analysis, and correspondence.
Management of VERA Program
Is a member of the VISN VERA Resource Allocation Committee, providing monthly updates on all prorated persons (PRP) and price group allocations.
Completes daily, weekly, and monthly reports utilizing the VERA Analyzer, VIP, CCM, ACM, and other specified Nuance and Clintegrity programs. Reports are to be completed on Inpatient and Outpatient workload.
Counsels and advises program managers on the methods and procedures for collecting and analyzing data from management reports using the appropriate data source and information management tools. Acts as an internal consultant to provide information support to program managers with accurate and detailed information regarding the data definitions.
Technology and Data Management
Identifies and implements best practices in information management.
Demonstrates personal initiative to maintain and expand technical knowledge.
Displays customer relations skills through effective communication (written and verbal) with internal and external customers

The incumbent assists in the development and implementation of strategic programs to support research that will lead to better utilization of VA healthcare and to improve the care of veterans including improved clinical outcomes specifically in telehealth and rural veteran outreach. The techniques of analysis are complex, and the incumbent may be called to combine techniques from multiple statistical and other data management programs.
This person monitors and reviews data from multi-site studies and projects, problem solve difficulties with subject recruitment, data collection, or entry issues and general project procedures. Responsible for obtaining or preparing outcome reports for outreach site on a regularly scheduled basis. Will interact with local VA's and VA hospitals nationally within the larger health care services research network. This individual participates in formulating and administering plans and policies designed to meet research/development program objectives.
Provides information and makes recommendations on technical issues and research directions where quantitative background information may be lacking. Provides technical expertise to program managers or program coordinators for a specific scientific program.
Responds to requests for information or assistance. Plans, develops, reviews, evaluates, and directly participates in the establishment and implementation of specific projects and objectives. Reviews information and Gantt charts; applies standard analytical techniques, evaluates workflow to determine potential problem areas. Develops recommendations and proposals to implement corrective actions in areas to improve coordination between multi site teams, hospital departments.
The incumbent providers technical expertise and consultation in the application of statistical therapy and technique in the collection, compilation, analysis and interpretation of quantitative information on the variety of the medical-related subjects. This individual also will also provide guidance on the planning, development, organization, and operation of statistical software for collecting, vetting, adjusting, processing, summarizing, and presenting information expressed numerically.
The integrity of the data obtained from the study is dependent and subsequent data analyses programs. This person will develop a data-based system tailored to the unique and varied requirements of a given study. This includes the development of an original and unique data editing system that assures the accuracy and consistency of all study data prior to analysis.
