Purpose of the post

The Cardiovascular and Metabolic Disorders (CVMD) Programme houses state-of-the-art technologies for profiling mitochondrial function and metabolic adaptations in human patients and other model organisms, and undertakes translational and clinical research in cardiovascular and metabolic disorders.

Professor Yen’s laboratory has a long-lasting interest in hepatic lipid metabolism. The research focuses in the area of thyroid hormone action, autophagy, mitochondrial function, and their dysregulation during metabolic liver diseases such as non-acholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD), the most prevalent chronic liver disease in the world. Based on their discoveries of novel molecular pathogenesis during NAFLD, Prof Yen’s laboratory aims to develop new intervention strategy and/or agents for NAFLD treatment.

The selected candidate will perform a variety of functions related to research under the supervision of the Principal Investigator or his/her designate: -

• Animal handling (mouse), in particular mice models of metabolic diseases (obesity and NAFLD), performing glucose and insulin tolerance tests, MRI and related experiments.

Job Description

Conservation and restoration of carbon-rich Southeast Asian forests are of tremendous ecological and economical importance to ASEAN countries in the combat of climate change. Yet exact spatial distribution, health status and carbon stock of these forests remain poorly known. While a great many conventional satellite data sets have been used to estimate forest carbon stocks, most are not yet accurate enough to ensure the credibility and integrity of the marketplace for nature-based climate solutions. This 3-yr project funded by Singapore’s Academic Research Council, Ministry of Education (MOE) aims to improve the measurement forest structure and aboveground biomass by linking these remote sensing observations to ground measurements of representative ecosystems in Southeast Asia.

Responsibilities

• Assist with the creation and execution of research studies, including the recruitment of participants and data management. This entails utilizing Qualtrics for the distribution of online surveys and other data collection tools as required.
• Explore potential data sources and conduct preliminary analyses to support research objectives.
• Coordinate with team members and faculty to ensure the smooth running of research projects.

Required Qualification

• Academic Background: Possess a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Psychology, Sociology, Computational Social Sciences, or a related discipline.
• Research Experience: Demonstrated experience in conducting research, with a preference for those who have actively participated in research projects.
• Technical Proficiency: Familiarity in using online platforms such as Qualtrics for online survey distribution and data collection.

Additional Desirable Attributes

• Computational Proficiency: Skills in computational methods, including data scraping and handling large datasets, are highly valued.
• Data Analysis Skills: Familiarity with basic data analysis techniques and software, with the ability to apply these skills to research data.

Duties

• Coordinate study start-up activities, including assisting with feasibility reviews and furnishing of regulatory documents
• Plan, organize and coordinate the workflow of the study
• Coordinate all mandatory training requirements and documentation
• Assisting with informed consent process by providing information to and educating research subjects, data collection and surveys
• Coordinate all relevant subject visits, ensuring minimum deviation from schedule of visits
• Ensure projects can be completed within the time frame and facilitate smooth running of research projects
• Monitor the quality of research ensuring compliance with HBRA, GCP, ICH & NHG guidelines and standards
• Monitor the financial aspects of the assigned study and advise the stakeholders accordingly
• Work with PI and department to respond to any audit findings and implement approved recommendations
• Assist with study closure activities including archival and assisting with all audits/ inspections/ monitoring
• Ensuring proper closure of study with all ethics and regulatory authorities

Requirements

• Minimally diploma in biomedical science
• prior relevant experience in research will be an added advantage
