Leadership Be a member of the Divisions Senior Leadership Team and Research Management Group actively contributing to develop and manage the implementation of the Divisions Strategy and provide professional advice on Population Health -related research. Provide academic leadership to build and sustain a Population Health Research Programme within the Division. Develop and deliver the research and innovation strategies to meet the Division and Schools strategic key performance indicators. As required by the Division Director, act as a spokesperson for the Division and School with internal and external stakeholders, the NHS and business partners. Represent the Division at School and community activities, enhancing the Divisions engagement presence. Research To provide strategic direction and academic leadership within the Population Health Research Programme in line with the main function of the post. To develop and sustain a ground-breaking, independent collaborative research programme of international excellence in preventive and public health medicine including through interaction with NHS-based projects. To demonstrate international research recognition and building collaboration through, for example, visiting fellowships/chairs, plenary papers, membership of international research or professional bodies, advising or giving expert opinion. Play a leading role in obtaining external funding with sustained levels to support the research programme. To publish results arising from it in relevant, international peer-reviewed journals. To lead the formal line management of research staff, projects and research contracts. To contribute strongly to the School of Medicines Research Excellence Framework strategy, with sustained high impact publication at 3* and 4* outputs, engagement and potential impact. To develop new research and research-funding initiatives, including through interaction with NHS-based projects. To provide academic leadership, through supervision of postgraduate and/or undergraduate research students, as well as Public Health registrars on placement within the Division working as part of an approved training programme. To provide sustained PhD supervision and actively support completed submission within a 4-year period. To act as a Research Excellence Framework (REF) mentor for junior academic staff. To actively mentor and support postdoctoral research staff and contribute to our active Equality Diversity and Inclusion initiatives to support all staff in the Division. Teaching Demonstrate academic leadership, both in terms of organisation and delivery, of clinical and research education, including in undergraduate teaching and postgraduate training programmes (Masters in Public Health). Demonstrate a commitment to continuous quality improvement of teaching and training. To contribute to degree and module development and delivery of teaching. To ensure delivery of teaching in line with current curricular requirements and best practices (peer assessment of teaching and student evaluations) To undertake work associated with examinations, such as setting and marking assessments and providing students with timely and constructive feedback. To act as a personal tutor and provide pastoral support to students, including supervising the work of Undergraduate and Masters students, the co-supervision of PGRs and acting as a PGR progress review panel member and chairing of MPhil and PhD or MD examinations, and internal PhD examiner duties and academic supervision of specialty registrars on the Public Health Specialty Training Programme in Wales, as required. Clinical For NHS Public Health duties, the post holder will be responsible to the Director of Public Health (if based in the Local Health Board), or a nominated Senior member of staff (if based in Public Health Wales). Professional accountability for Consultants in Public Health Medicine will also be to the Medical Director of the relevant Local Health Board or Trust. To hold an honorary consultant contract with the relevant NHS Health Board or Trust. To comply fully with all NHS policies, guidelines and procedures. To provide a consultant Public Health service work, as agreed with the Director of the Division of Population Medicine and relevant line manager within Public Health Wales or the relevant Local Health Board, via the joint job planning process To participate in the consultant on-call rota and provide telephone advice and to liaise with other health care providers, hospitals and primary care teams, as required. To undertake the professional supervision and management of junior staff. In certain circumstances, the post-holder may be named as the person responsible for overseeing the training of junior staff in the Academic setting To participate actively in clinical audit, in liaison with other colleagues and in line with the NHS Trust policy on the implementation of clinical governance To participate actively in Continuing Professional Development in line with guidance from the relevant Royal College and in agreement with the Chief Executive of the relevant NHS Trust(s)/Health Board. To participate actively in, and comply fully with NHS policies, including the clinical academic/NHS joint appraisal and job planning processes and the requirements for consultant re-validation To maintain scientific competency by attending relevant lectures, courses, seminars and conferences. Other To contribute to the effective management and administration of the Division, School and College, within the University To undertake such administrative duties as required by the Director of the Division of Population Medicine. To ensure compliance with legal and regulatory requirements in respect of equality and diversity, data protection and information governance, copyright and licensing, security, financial and other University policies, procedures and codes as appropriate. To perform other academic duties, on an occasional basis, and by agreement, which are not included above, but which are consistent with the role of a senior academic.
