We are looking for two talented and motivated individuals to join our friendly multidisciplinary team and to support the ongoing workload of interventional and diagnostic neuroradiology services in one of London’s premiere Teaching Hospital Trusts. A recognised fellowship or appropriate consultant experience in interventional neuroradiology is a requirement as is the ability to undertake work in all aspects of acute adult neurointervention including acute stroke.

Candidates must hold full GMC registration and either already be on the Specialist Register or be within six months of receiving their CCT in Clinical Radiology at the time of interview. Essential qualifications for this post include at least 18 months subspecialty training in neuroradiology in a recognised centre. The post is offered on a whole-time basis (10 Programmed Activities, on-call 1 in 6 for interventional neuroradiology.) Applications for a part-time appointment will be considered.

The successful candidate will join a team of 21 adult diagnostic neuroradiologists and work within a team of 5 adult neurointerventionalists. He or she will be fully supported by a thriving and friendly department. Two new biplane angiography rooms and a new CT scanner have recently been installed as part of a major ongoing refurbishment and redevelopment of the department. The department is also equipped with three 3T MR, one 1.5T MRI and an Interventional MRI suite. The department supports Gamma knife surgery on site.

The appointee will join the three other full time consultants and one part time consultant at Ashford and St Peters Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust working in conjunction with Royal Surrey County Hospital. This will be working a 1:8 attending rota at the RSCH site, and a coordinated 1:8 out-of-hours on call rota covering clinical and laboratory haematology and blood transfusion. The laboratory services across the three Surrey sites are delivered within a common shared LIMS platform with integrated laboratory management and access to Cellavison technology. Clinical haematology sits within the Medicine Division (Divisional Director: Dr Jonathan Robin, Consultant Acute Physician) and laboratory haematology/blood transfusion sits within the Diagnostics and Therapeutics Division. Each division is supported by a divisional manager as well as designated finance and HR representatives. The Trust gained Foundation status in late 2010, licensed from the 1st December, and was the first Trust to have done so under the new standards. The formation of an integrated pathology network with our neighbouring Trusts, Frimley Park Hospital and the Royal Surrey County Hospital was formalised as the Surrey Pathology Services on 1st April 2012 with subsequent inclusion of Wexham Park Hospital and Heatherwood. In 2016 the Surrey Pathology Service expanded to become the Berkshire & Surrey Pathology Services (BSPS: Director of Pathology Nicola Newman) with the integration of The Royal Berkshire Hospital NHS Trust pathology service. The locality laboratory at St Peters Hospital provides the network specialist coagulation service. The network immunology, virology and cytology laboratories are also located on the St Peters site. An integrated network-wide management structure for the laboratory pathology services is in place including detailed governance and line management arrangements with shared budgetary mechanisms between the partner organisations. In July 2016 an SLA with the Royal Marsden Hospital (RMH) was agreed and signed leading to the SI HMDS service for the Alliance being delivered by the RMH. All sites provide hot haematology, blood transfusion and biochemistry laboratory services for their respective hospitals. The main histopathology and cytology laboratories are located at RSCH. The microbiology laboratories and main haematology laboratory are located at FPH, where CellaVision is installed, allowing potential for remote blood film review. General practice work from RSCHs catchment is analysed at the FPH laboratory taking full advantage of its investment in automated specimen handling. The two sites share a single laboratory information system (Winpath Enterprise). A molecular biology laboratory provides a broad and expanding range of tests. Clinical haematology services are provided within the framework of a new integrated service and a shared haematology oncology MDT with the Royal Surrey County Hospital and within the wider context of the St Lukes Cancer Alliance. This post will include all elements of haematology practice (malignant and non-malignant). The busy day unit is supported by a junior doctor, a haematology clinical nurse specialist and four haematology nurses (band 6 x3, band 5 x1) managed by a band 7 Specialist lead nurse for the haematology day unit and infusion unit at Ashford. The haematology nurses also support the level-1 inpatient activity. Two anticoagulant clinical nurse specialists and an anticoagulant specialist BMS deliver the anticoagulant service with the clinical support of the consultants and the hospital transfusion practitioner is based within the blood transfusion laboratory working closely with the biomedical scientists and network team of HTPs. At Royal Surrey County Hospital Clinical Haematology is managed within the Surgery and Oncology Specialty Business Unit (SBU) which is based in the St Lukes Cancer Centre site at the RSCH and provides services including radiotherapy to residents of Surrey, West Sussex and Hampshire, a catchment over 1.3 million. Clinical Haematology falls under the Clinical directorate of Oncology and Haematology. The consultant haematologists are members of the Oncology and Surgery Specialty Business Unit with admitting rights to the 31 bedded oncology/haematology ward and the support of junior oncology medical staff (6 junior doctors, 2 covering Haematology (one GP trainee and one CMT) in addition to one haematology specialist registrar. There are currently 8 level 2 beds nominally designated for haematology inpatients but admission is according to clinical need and ring-fencing is currently not applied. Access to the general medical and oncology outpatient clinics, general and oncology day unit facilities is also provided. There is no private ward at the RSCH. There is 24 hour junior doctor cover/presence on the haematology/oncology ward with direct admission under haematology care set by a series of defined criteria. There is no haematology SpR on call. Haematology advice out of hours comes directly from the consultant. Only registrar grade or above can contact the haematologist out of hours. For ward emergencies the medical registrar and ITU provide cross-cover. In addition to the main duties listed above, the following duties apply: Engage with medical, nursing, management and all relevant co-workers in the delivery of department objectives: to provide clinical leadership, improve the patient experience; ensure the highest quality clinical care. Actively participate in and support other staff with education, research, audit and clinical governance activities involving a multi-disciplinary workforce across the department Participate in the professional training of the staff in the department, both medical and non-medical, and contribute as required to teaching sessions for other hospital staff as well as undergraduate and postgraduate staff, including supervision of junior medical staff. Teaching and training will require verification of teaching certification Support recruitment, appraisal, development and mentoring activities to a multi-disciplinary, multi-professional team. **Please note that the job description is currently being approved by the Royal College of Anaesthetists** We are seeking dynamic and motivated Anaesthetists to join our busy department, providing emergency and elective services. The roles encompass general fields of Anaesthesia across all hospital sites within the Trust. However, opportunities in specialised areas will be available based on appropriate expertise, such as airway management, maxillofacial surgery, vascular procedures, cardiology, obstetrics, major surgeries, renal transplants, regional anaesthesia, orthopaedics, robotic surgery, and urology. On-call emergency coverage will primarily be for the Guys site, covering thoracic, difficult airway, and renal transplant anaesthesia. However, if the candidates specialisation aligns better with the St. Thomas site, opportunities in vascular and gastrointestinal anaesthesia may be available. The post holder will be expected to actively participate in clinical and other service activities with the aim of ensuring a high standard of patient care. In addition to clinical duties, experience in education, teaching, training, governance, leadership, and research will be considered a significant advantage.

These posts are part of a collaborative venture between the Christie NHS Foundation Trust (CFT) and Tameside and Glossop Integrated Care NHS Foundation Trust (TGH) to support the development of haematology services across the southern sector of the Greater Manchester and Cheshire Cancer Network (GMCCN) and the delivery of clinical and laboratory haematology on the TGH site. The post will be established at the Christie although the majority of the clinical sessions will be undertaken at TGH. The post holder will be a core member of the Christie leukaemia/myeloma and lymphoma multidisciplinary teams and the post also offers the opportunity to develop a special interest in an area of malignant haematology at the Christie if required to suit the interests of the successful applicant. The Haematology department based at TGH is run by a highly motivated team providing outpatient, day care and inpatient service to BCSH level 1. At the Christie, the appointment will join the existing team of 14 Consultants and at TGH will complement the current single-handed Haematologist, a Clinical Nurse Specialist/Service Manager and Clinical Nurse Specialist. The appointee will be expected to participate a shared on-call rota (currently with Stepping Hill Hospital) for out of hours work. There will be no on-call commitment on the Christie Site. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES The medical establishment provides 14 consultants within the department. The appointees will be based at Tameside and will report to the Clinical Director of Haematology & Teenage and Young Adult Cancer at The Christie NHS Trust with accountability to the Medical Director at The Christie NHS Foundation Trust. To develop and implement best practice in Haematology To support the existing staff at Tameside in delivery of a high quality service To be a core member of the GMCCN Southern Sector Multidisciplinary Team (MDT) Diagnostic support Radiology (X ray, MRI and CT scan) and Pharmacy services are available at Tameside. The Pathology Collaborative Pathology is provided via Tameside. Diagnostic samples from haematology patients are handled and reported by the Greater Manchester Haematological Cancer Diagnostic Partnership (HODS). The Haematology Laboratory Department The haematology laboratory holds full UKAS accreditation status to ISO 15189:2012. The department is registered in the United Kingdom External Quality Assessments scheme for its full repertoire of tests including coagulation, blood transfusion, full blood counts and other general haematology tests. Haematology, Biochemistry and Blood Transfusion have been merged to provide a combined blood science service. The laboratory is fully CPA accredited and takes part in all relevant NEQAS schemes. The services consist of: Biochemistry Haematology Blood Transfusion Mortuary and Bereavement Services Virology (Screening only for Hepatitis otherwise MMMP) Microbiology Cellular Pathology (Located at UHSM) Blood Transfusion There is a well-established hospital blood transfusion committee and team. The committee meets quarterly and deals with current issues and determines long term strategy. It consists of laboratory, A&E, theatre and ward representatives, plus the Hospital Transfusion Practitioner. The Consultant +/- CNS will be invited to the HTC which is held 3 months per year. The Hospital Transfusion Team meets monthly, performs regular audits and implements improvement and educational strategies. This has ensured the Trust has successfully maximised the use of blood and blood products. Clinical Haematology There is both inpatient and outpatient management of a wide variety of benign and malignant haematological disorders as would be typical of a District General Hospital haematology practise. Haematology has no dedicated inpatient beds, however, they provide a service to the Medical and Surgical Directorates to give haematological assessments when required. This is currently provided by ad-hoc visits as required. Haematology patients receiving out-patient care, including those attending the Tameside Macmillan Unit, that require in-patient treatment remain under the care of the admitting General Physician with the haematologist providing relevant advice. General Physicians also manage patients with venous thromboembolic problems and liaise closely with the anticoagulant service. There is considerable liaison with local General Practitioners for haematological advice, both written and by telephone along with clinical advice and guidance via the NHS Electronic Referral Service Pre-COVID pandemic the clinical haematology department reviewed approximately 46 new haematology outpatients and 220 review patients per month. Day case attendances numbered approximately 85 per month (Monday and Thursday) The current haematology inpatient and outpatient case mix consists of general haematology, low grade haematological malignancy which includes chronic myeloid and chronic lymphocytic leukaemia, myeloma plus myelodysplasias and a variety of haemostatic and thrombotic problems. Cases of acute leukaemia in younger patients requiring intensive chemotherapy are referred onward to the specialist haematology unit at the Christie Hospital. The treatment of haematological malignancies is by protocol and is also based on the BCSH and North West Haemato-Oncology guidelines. Chemotherapy is electronically prescribed using the iQemo computerised system. When appropriate, patients with haemoglobinopathies are referred to the Sickle cell and Thalassaemia Centre at the Central Manchester Hospital. Patients with haemophilia and other congenital bleeding disorders are referred to the Thrombosis and Haemostasis Centre at the Manchester Royal Infirmary. Out of hours cover and on-call The appointees will be expected to participate in an out of hours on shared with Stockport NHS Foundation Trust (currently 1:4). It is anticipated that the out of hours arrangements may change going forward to include cover for East Cheshire NHS Trust although at reduced frequency.

The Anaesthetic Department falls within the Surgical Care Group and comprises Anaesthetics, ITU, Theatres, Chronic Pain, Acute Pain, Pre-assessment and Day Surgery, along with surgical specialties. Clinical Director for Anaesthetics, Theatres and Intensive Care Medicine is Dr James Limb (Trustwide). The Lead Clinician for the Anaesthetic department at Darlington Memorial Hospital (DMH) is Dr Jothika Thimappa. The successful applicant will primarily work at DMH and Bishop Auckland Hospital (BAH), although there may be a requirement to work at other trust sites. The anaesthetic departments culture is one of mutual respect with collective responsibility for the workload within the hospital. Anaesthetic services are currently provided for elective and emergency patients requiring anaesthesia and/or resuscitation at DMH, BAH, UHND and Shotley Bridge. At DMH site there are 11 operating theatres covering Community Dental, ENT (Day case), General Surgery (including major colorectal surgery, breast surgery and bariatric surgery), Orthopaedic and Trauma Surgery, Obstetric and Gynaecological Surgery, Ophthalmology and Urology (Day case). Emergency lists are provided in routine hours for Orthopaedic trauma, General surgery and Gynaecology, as well as an out of hours emergency theatre. There is a Consultant-led pre-assessment service with weekly clinics including CPEX testing. The obstetric department, located on the 6th floor has its own theatre. An anaesthetic nurse provides assistance for all theatre cases. DMH has an 11 bed combined ICU and high-dependency care. The unit is located adjacent to the theatre suite. This unit is used flexibly between level 2 and 3 beds. Three consultant sessions are allocated on each weekday. Facilities for renal replacement therapy are available for 3 patients. Plans are in the final stages for the expansion of ICU to 15 spaces. Anaesthesia for CT Scanning and MRI services is available. The use of regional techniques (neuraxial, upper and lower limb blocks) is widespread within the department. Facilities exist on the wards to continue major nerve blockade post-operatively and there is the support of an excellent acute pain service. Out of hours cover is provided by a 3 tier resident on call rota. They are supported by 2 consultant on-call rotas, one covering theatres and obstetrics, and one covering ITU although the rotas support each other when busy and for covering A&E/Paeds emergencies/transfers. At the weekend there are dedicated consultants who cover critical care and orthopaedic trauma lists during daytime hours, as well as other theatre emergencies. Consultants and Speciality Doctors are actively encouraged to support the weekly DMH based FRCA teaching programme. This comprehensive programme is available to all trainees and pre-FRCA Speciality Doctors and receives excellent feedback from both trainees and the School of Anaesthesia. MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES The post holder will undertake clinical work in conjunction with their clinical colleagues (24 Consultants, 9 specialty / specialist doctors and an average of 13 trainees) and other professional staff in order to maintain and develop Anaesthetic Services and develop specialist skills in accordance with the needs of the department. The post holder will have a continuing responsibility for the care of patients in their charge and will contribute to the proper functioning of the department of Anaesthesia and Intensive Care Medicine. Furthermore, the post holder will be required to undertake administrative duties directly associated with the care of patients. The post holder will supervise junior medical staff and have responsibility to ensure continuing patient care at all times. For management purposes, the post holder will be accountable to the Lead Clinician for ensuring the effective and efficient use of resources allocated. The post holder will have scheduled activity with regular anaesthetic sessions based on a 4 week rolling session plan; a degree of flexibility will be expected to meet the needs of the service. SPA activity will be timetabled within the weekly job plan. During some working weeks, flexibility in the ratio of DCC:SPA may be required although SPA time will always be paid back. As additional responsibilities are acquired, the number of SPAs may alter with remuneration agreed through the job planning process. The post holder must be willing to undertake elective sessions in all sites undertaking surgery. The post holder must possess a UK driving license and be able to present for scheduled list start times as required by the Trust. The post holder will be expected to participate in teaching. Research and clinical audit activities, which are considered to be an integral part of normal duties, will be encouraged. Research funding may be available following successful application to local committees. The post holder will be encouraged and supported to develop services, courses and to undertake innovation. The post holder will be expected to deputise in the absence of colleagues. The post holder will be expected to perform additional duties in emergency and unforeseen circumstances as are essential for continuity of patient care. The post holder will be responsible for the professional management and supervision of junior medical staff. PROPOSED TIMETABLE AND JOB PLAN The job plan This is an indicative job plan, the final job plan/on-call arrangements will be agreed in partnership prior to appointment. The following provides scheduling details of the clinical activity and clinically related activity components of the job plan which occur at regular times in the week. Agreement should be reached between the appointee and their Clinical Director with regard to the scheduling of all other activities, including the Supporting Professional Activities. The job plan for approximately the first three months will be based on the proposed timetable shown below. A formal job plan will be agreed between the appointee and their Clinical Director within 3-6 months, and approved by the Medical Director. The job plan will then be reviewed annually in accordance with the Trust policy on Consultant Job Planning. Each theatre session is 5.25 hours. Remuneration is 1.3125 PAs per working session (which includes pre and post op care). The primary role of the post holder in Forward Leeds is to provide clinics at Forward Leeds, alongside attendance at the MDT, team supervision and contribute to senior leadership of the service. The postholder will work jointly with colleagues from other disciplines and all relevant agencies to provide a comprehensive approach to patient care and treatment. LYPFT supports New Ways of Working in Mental Health and the appointee will have a remit to contribute to multidisciplinary working in this context. All referrals are discussed and allocated at the MDT meeting. The consultant psychiatrist would usually see those with drug or alcohol use for assessment, diagnosis and treatment, including opiate substitution, management of detoxification, mental health assessments where psychotropic medication may be of benefit, concerns regarding physical health, post detox assessment and annual review of those on opiate substitution therapy otherwise managed by NMP. There is a requirement to ensure effective communication across partners, including within Forward Leeds, with GPs and with our interface with community mental health and crisis teams. There is an expectation that the postholder will work closely with the Clinical Lead to provide clinical leadership and service development; will participate in clinical governance activities, including clinical audit and risk management to continuously improve the quality of care provided for service users; will participate in continuing professional development, appraisal and the revalidation process and will contribute to team training and the education of any undergraduates or junior medical staff attached to the team.
