Employee plans and organizes work general assistance from the supervisor as to meet local and VA - wide time frames to complete analysis requirements, reports and special assignments and only refers to the non-routine and high technical problems to his/her supervisor. The incumbent is responsible for reporting backlogs, difficulties in meeting deadlines, uncooperative physicians, or difficulty in securing information from clinicians or the record. Employee is responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of information obtained to carry out required duties.
Routinely communicates with physicians, case managers, and other allied health professional staff using sound interpersonal skills and is constantly aware of the sensitive information. Otherwise, works independently making decisions based on guidelines, precedents and regulations and performs duties in such a manner that only minimal supervision is required. Performance is judged in terms of overall effectiveness of the operation through broad general objectives, the adequacy and accuracy of the work, timeliness, and conformance to established procedures, policies, and instructions. - Ensures that a forum exists in which staff participate in identifying, communicating, and resolving issues related to local Service Line operations, overall Health Care System operations, ancillary and support operations, and VISN-wide mandates. Appropriate forums would include but not be limited to regularly scheduled staff meetings
- Responds in a timely and appropriate manner to internal and external evaluations or investigations including safety, regulatory, accreditation surveys and/or site visits from various organizations such as OIG Cap, Office of Mental Health Visits, AWE, CARF, OPM, Joint Commission etc. Timeliness is issue dependent and could range from a matter of days up to but not surpassing 1-year from the original citation unless there are documented extenuating circumstances.
- Performance reflects and demonstrates support of the Health Care System Director's, and VISN's performance plan, and Network and national goals
b. Communication: Excellent communication skills are a key competency for the position. The incumbent will be expected to facilitate communication up and down the Service Line and will be the primary conduit of information to his/her colleagues/subordinates as well as to Service Line leadership. Additionally:
- Incumbent sustains collaborative working relationships with all staff, assists in resolving conflicts, and contributes to the accomplishment of VISN and Medical Center strategic goals.
- Works with the VISN Primary Care and Specialty Medicine Service Line and VISN Medical Director to ensure VISN-wide Service Line policies, procedures, performance goals, strategic plans and initiatives are communicated to staff and implemented.

The Nurse Practitioner will specialize in pain management, at the Michael E. DeBakey VA Medical Center.
