Job Purpose

To strengthen the in-house actuarial capability in the area of general insurance and provide actuarial support to general insurance business.

The Job

· Performs valuation and assist in preparation of reserve review reports

· Supports implementation of target operating model for IFRS 17, including the assessment of insurance reserves, profit and loss.

· Collaborates with internal/ external stakeholders to price and develop GI products.

· Provide pricing guidance and review support across entities.

a) Periodic data preparation for valuation and pricing

b) Assist in the financial management of the general business

c) Support business units by generating required reports

· Provide technical support on other general insurance related matters, such as marketing, underwriting and claims management

· Takes accountability in considering business and regulatory compliance risks and takes appropriate steps to mitigate the risks.

· Maintains awareness of industry trends on regulatory compliance, emerging threats and technologies in order to understand the risk and better safeguard the company.

· Highlights any potential concerns /risks and proactively shares best risk management practices.

Our Requirements

· Degree in Actuarial or relevant fields, and good progress in Actuarial examinations

· Excellent in statistical analysis, problem solving and communication skills

· Proficient in MS Excel and good knowledge of statistical packages and strong interest in programming (e.g SAS, SQL, VBA, Prophet)

· Familiar with general insurance, RBC2, reinsurance structures, IFRS17, and AS400 system data structure will be an advantage

· At least 5 years of relevant working experience

The opportunity

Participating Fund management team, residing in Actuarial Department, is accountable for the governance of Participating Fund (Par Fund); ensuring Par Fund’s sustainability as well as the its regulatory compliance. Stakeholders including senior management, risk managers, product managers, investment managers and distributions.

This position focus in executing the process-driven tasks the team; assisting the managers to deliver Par Fund-related report/monitoring with accuracy, consistency and in timely manner; ensure providing Senior Management with correct and useful information on Par Fund-related matters. This position is instrumental in pushing forward various initiatives to address current capability limitations of the Actuarial Department in view to transform our way of work while improving the work quality.

Responsibilities

• Monitoring Par Fund’s surplus on quarterly basis or on request basis
• Maintain and continually update the Par Fund governance Framework.
• Assist in annual dividend recommendation exercise.
• Work closely with third parties, pricing and customer service colleagues to handle customers’ Par-fund related queries.
• Work closely with third parties, internal/external consultants, internal/external auditors, regulators ensuring adherence to Par Fund Management group guidelines and statutory regulations.
• Drive various actuarial projects in line with the department’s strategy in collaborating effectively with relevant stakeholders.
• Challenge status quo and identify automation opportunities to transform valuation process.
• Work closely with other actuarial teams to push forward process improvement initiatives.
• Stay updated on automation/programable technologies to identify adoption opportunities.

What we are looking for

• University degree in Actuarial Science
• Good progress in actuarial exams
• At least 6-8 years of experience in actuarial field. Experience in Par Fund Management /Deep knowledge about Par products is required.
• Experience across reporting, pricing preferred.
• Interested in driving changes with solution-seeking mind-set.
• Knowledge of local valuation regulation is a must.
• Attention to details.
• Analytical thinking
• Ability to work collaboratively with other colleagues with different background across the organization.
• Good communication skill is desirable.

PURPOSE

This role leads a small team of actuaries and owns the Embedded Value reporting function. This provides opportunities to work directly with the AA and CFO in matters relating to embedded value, strategic plans and other key projects.

KEY ACCOUNTAIBILITIES

· Be the subject matter expert in embedded value topics. Knowledge on other actuarial functions, such as capital management, IFRS 17, experience studies and business planning is a plus.

· Drive technical aspects of SME topics independently.

· Support in communication and stakeholder management of SME topics.

· Anticipate risks and changes to financial metrics, regulations and group requirements on SME topics and highlight them promptly, providing solutions where possible to manage the risks or gaps.

· Ensure timely and successful deliverables on regular and periodic controls such as report validation, reserve movement analysis, audit logs, etc.

· Pro-actively identify process gaps and/or routine tasks to drive process enhancement and automation initiatives to improve reporting processes in terms of speed, accuracy and controls.

· Manage and develop the team to ensure high quality of deliverables and commentaries.

· Ensure proper controls are in place with audit trail and compliance with Group policies

· Assist in the coordination of work and resource planning to ensure that projects and deliverables to all key stakeholders are met with good quality.

· Support AA and CFO and the team on key ad-hoc projects where required.

· Build strong relationships with key internal and external stakeholders including Business Units, Finance, Group Actuarial/Finance and Auditors

QUALIFICATIONS / EXPERIENCE

· Bachelor’s Degree in Actuarial Science

· Qualified / near-qualified actuary with 6-9 years of experience

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITY

· Strong technical skills, with some focus on valuation and reporting

· Good knowledge on insurance regulations

· Experience with Prophet and Microsoft Excel

· Strong analytical skills with a keen eye for details

· Good communication and stakeholder management skills

· Track record in driving successful team projects will be a bonus
