The ideal candidate will have a dynamic, adaptable, pro-active approach with good organisational skills. They should have experience of working in a school and an understanding of SEN in children and young people.
The role supports not only onsite learning but also incorporates attending offsite provisions such as; therapeutic farms; colleges and offsite when required. Due to the nature of the role the successful candidate will need to have a full driving licence and happy to drive school vehicles.Main Duties and Responsibilities
To work with Line Management to provide appropriate guidance, support, set boundaries and nurture the students whilst they attend the school and any off-site provisionsTo be adaptable and think on your feet, always keeping in mind the end goal for the students you are working withTo support students with their education, providing in-class support and 1:1 environments as directed. This may include participating in activities in both indoor and outdoor environments as well as residential stay overs (e.g. camping with Challenger Troop provision)Support social interaction between students at social times as guided by your Line ManagerTo liaise between the School and other provisions in a professional manner, ensuring that there are high levels of clear communicationTo participate is departmental and school student achievement celebrations as requiredClose liaison with students and parents / carers to discuss work and offsite provisionsTo be able to work independently at both onsite and offsite provisions
To carry out comprehensive risk assessments when managing groups of students. This may be for the school or for outside provisionsTo lead by example, acting as an appropriate positive role model to all students remembering that the children are vulnerable and impressionable. Always ensure that students receive a fresh start every lesson and every dayTo be professional at all times, towards both the students, staff, parents and any visitorsBe consistent in your approach and have a firm, yet fair manner

Contribute towards new strategies and approaches, ensuring you exhaust all available routes of support to the studentsTo be flexible and adaptable depending on the day to day requirements of the schoolUndertake physical intervention ‘Team Teach’ training and use skills as and when requiredWest Heath School works towards the end goal of helping students re-integrate into mainstream learning and preparation for adulthood.
