About the Unit:

The twenty-four-bed Neuroscience unit offers specialized nursing assessment and care to patients with both neurological and neurosurgical diagnoses. Typical patients include those with a diagnosis of stroke, post-op craniotomy, post-op discectomy and other back surgeries, as well as post-cerebral embolization. Unit nursing care is complemented by the expertise of two Neuroscience Coordinators.  New Graduate Nurses are welcome.

Job Duties:

The Neuro Spine Nurse assesses and identifies patient needs and implements appropriate interventions for the neuro patient.  The Nurse establishes and maintains a plan for the delivery of nursing care; assures that nursing care interventions and activities are directed to resolve problems; and performs technical aspects of care competently. Neuroscience nurses must have strong critical thinking skills and attention to detail in order to stay atop changing patient conditions.  The neuro nurse acts as a family and patient resource to guide them through all stages of the patient’s healthcare journey.

Job Duties:
The Charge Nurse is responsible for acting as a resource nurse for the department. This is an entry-level leadership position responsible for the coordination of care on designated shifts. The Charge RN will provide leadership to the staff members of the unit in the area of patient care. This Charge Nurse will work alongside the team and provide direct patient care while determining needed staffing fluctuations during shifts, responding to departmental concerns, address immediate staff issues and coordinate patient flow.

About the Unit:

The Emergency Department (ED) has 41 beds divided between two pods with 37 private rooms.  A split-flow area is located near main triage and provides care to lower acuity patients.  Split flow varies from 5-8 patients and is run by 1-2 nurses and a mid-level provider.  This fast-paced ED treats an average of 160+ patients per day.  ED staff encounter a wide variety of patients including acute cardiovascular and neurovascular emergencies, general medical emergencies, traumatic injuries and psychiatric patients. The ED is recognized by the American Heart Association as both a STEMI receiving center and a designated Primary Stroke Center.

About the Unit:

This 38 bed unit is focused on treating pre and post-operative surgical patients.  This includes performing procedures necessary for proper placement of lines and assisting with peripheral nerve blocks.  Post-operatively, patients are prepared for discharge in the same area offering continuity for the Phase II Recovery or discharge phase.  Critical care experience is desired.  BCLS, ACLS and PALS is/will be required.

6B is a telemetry unit that consists of 23 all private rooms. This unit specializes in pre and post diagnostic and interventional cardiology patients. Staff receive specialized training for post-cardiac catheterization and cardiac medicine initiation/administration, such as Tikosyn. 6B also cares for acute and chronic heart conditions, chemotherapy, and post-procedural patients. This adult and geriatric population has multiple co-morbidities and requires complex care. This unit is a fast-paced and team-oriented environment, rich with opportunity for learning.
