THE ROLE
As the Cost Engineer, you are responsible for the preparation of economic and technical cost and time estimates for tenders.
You will play an integral role in the tendering process for offshore wind projects.
You will have a good understanding of logistic concepts and the capabilities and limits of offshore technology as you will set up the calculations, as well as understanding what happens in the field. In this way, you can advise the tender team of the most cost and time efficient designs.
Coordinate with relevant departments with the aim of drawing up an accurate and valid cost and time estimates
Coordinate with risk and planning specialist(s) to strive for fully integrated project management
Draw up work calculations and offer support during the implementation phase of a project
Actively develop your expertise by keeping informed on the latest developments in the market and identifying possible opportunities for client
THE PERSON
You will often deal with tight deadlines, so goal-oriented work and excellent communication skills with a methodical approach are essential in this role. A real team player, effective communication skills with a customer-focused attitude. Together with:

The Projects & Process Finance Manager will support process improvement including the design, development and automation of processes & reporting solutions. The role will support the delivery of key Business & Finance Transformation Projects including the implementation of the ICFR (Internal Controls over Financial Reporting) Framework for SSE's Distribution Business.
As Projects & Process Manager you will support the roll out of ongoing changes from the Finance Transformation (FT) Programme which encompasses Process Excellence & Automation, Data & Reporting, Ways of Working and Operating Model, Procurement of new tools, and Programme Management & Change. Your role will include supporting implementation of workstream changes aligned to programme delivery.
The Finance Transformation Programme will deliver:
- Process simplification - driving standard processes across the Finance function, reducing manual effort and improving KPI's across Operational Finance processes.
- Technology - deliver Technology change, including architecture design; ERP Improvements and the implementation of new tools to support month-end, reporting and consolidation processes.
- Data - deliver end-to-end finance data management solution, including data governance, data quality, data lineage, analytics and visualisation.
- Reporting - deliver both tactical and strategic finance reporting solution(s), covering management, statutory, and regulatory reporting requirements.
- Chart of Accounts - implementation of a revised chart of accounts which will underpin the processes, reporting and technology solutions of the programme.
- The role will interact with all levels across the organisation and support process improvement and effective financial control across Distribution.
The role is a varied and challenging role with key accountabilities as follows:
Transformation - Your role will include both leading & supporting the delivery of Transformation programme initiatives & assignments which impact Distribution, this will include optimising processes throughout the Distribution finance function, delivering technology change and delivering end to end finance data management solution. You will support the end-to-end cycle from project design through to build, user acceptance testing and acceptance. Your role will including facilitating and communicating actions / inputs required from the wider team ensuring timescales & requirements are clearly communicated. Actively progressing & collating deliverables, and communicate timely responses back to FT team, raising questions & providing feedback to the FT team as required.
Process Improvement / Projects - You will support and drive process improvement including the design, development and automation of processes & reporting solutions. You will work closely with process leads to; review current processes, identify scope for process improvements (e.g.to reduce man hour requirements and/or to improve information and insights), prioritising requirements, troubleshoot and performing root cause analysis, develop solutions and facilitate change. Key areas of focus will be Inventory & Connections Finance processes. You will support designing, developing and deploying Power Query analysis & reports, where Power Query is considered an appropriate tool to enable process improvement.
Process - Support development of a Process Library & Process Log for Distribution Finance team, to include; list of processes, owners, frequency and timing (weekly/annual etc) and links to supporting process documentation and Risk & Control Matrices etc. Where process documentation is not currently available, work with the Finance team to develop & capture work instructions to share knowledge and mitigate risk of Single Points of Failure.
Controls - Work with the FT Controls team to remediate any remaining control gaps, including spreadsheet risk. Develop a Spreadsheet Register to categorising spreadsheets in line with the Spreadsheet Policy. Work with the Financial Controls team to identify & remediate control gaps, the control team will focus initially on high-risk spreadsheets. Support & help facilitate fixing control gaps working closely with control / spreadsheet owners.
Reporting - Identify improvements to the design and delivery of current finance reports and processes, with the aim of rationalising, standardising, and automating the current reporting suite. Work closely with the IT and data teams within the FT programme to deliver the build requirements of new reports/reporting solutions. Support development of a Reports Catalogue, working with the Distribution Finance team to identify reports to be developed in OBIEE. Where OBIEE report development is required, prioritise the reports and work with superusers and / or the OBIEE Support team to develop the required reports, raise SCITs as required and manage the end-to-end cycle from report design through to build, user acceptance testing and acceptance.
Change - Act as a Change Agent for Distribution Finance. Act as liaison between the Finance Transformation team & Distribution Finance. Ensure change is effectively planned and executed through regular liaison with key stakeholder groups and the change team within the transformation programme. Ensuring timely escalation & control of risks, issues, dependencies, and timelines. Supporting the sharing of knowledge and experience with the team to develop colleagues and the capability of SSE.
What do I need?- Have experience operating in a Finance role within a large organisation, ideally with experience of Financial Operations, Performance Reporting, delivering a Continuous Improvement agenda and disciplines such as Risk Management, Audit and SOX.
- Strong Business Analysis and problem-solving skills, with an ability to work with stakeholders across all business functions to define requirements.
- Ability to interpret and assimilate multiple data sources and render meaningful insight and appropriate recommendations and clear actions.
- Have an appropriate accounting qualification (ICAS, ICAEW, ACCA, CIMA or CIPFA) or be qualified by experience in a similar role.
- Ideally have experience of OBIEE, Power Query or Power Bi and an in depth knowledge of ERP software (Oracle desirable).

Our SSEN Distribution Asset Management team consists of Asset Risk Management and Equipment Specification. Portfolio Management is part of SSENs Asset Management directorate. The Portfolio Management team act as custodian of the 132kV, 33kV, 11kV and LV Primary and distribution network and is responsible for planning, technical development and overseeing investment in SSENs distribution networks in the South of England. The team's responsibilities include investment management of the network to identifying project solutions to improve the health and performance of the network.
Key Responsibilities:
- We're looking for a Portfolio Investment Engineer to help identify and manage the CAPEX and OPEX investment programme, ensuring our electricity network remains fully compliant with the technical and regulatory requirements of our licence.
- Holding a key role within the Electricity Networks business, you will ensure that available funding is spent efficiently and effectively on secondary Voltage investments.
- You will work closely with a number of other teams in SSEN and will contribute to the planning and development of the distribution networks in line with the company's licence obligations and objectives set by the industry regulator in the Price Control Reviews.
