Job Description

Predicting Debt Crisis with Artificial Intelligence and Real-Time Big Data, an inter-disciplinary project funded by the Asian Institute of Digital Finance, is looking for a full-time Postdoctoral Fellow. The Principal Investigators of this project are at Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy and NUS School of Computing. The candidate will oversee day-to-day activities and the general management of assigned research projects.

These responsibilities include:
• Conducting academic research on topics related to artificial intelligence, macro finance, and interdisciplinary topics.
• Integrating existing literature to propose research ideas and hypotheses, develop and implement empirical analysis using various statistical software. Methodologies used include machine learning, regression discontinuities, difference-in-difference analyses, among others.
• Working with team members to extract, process, and filter information from various text resources and construct new datasets.
• Processing, cleaning, and merging datasets (e.g., using R, Python, Stata, SPSS, and/or SAS).
• Giving presentations and scheduling meetings with external parties that are relevant to the research projects
• Coordinating and supervising research assistants to help in the responsibilities stated above.

Requirements

- A PhD degree in econometrics, economics, finance, or other related fields.
- Experience of conducting interdisciplinary research. Relevant experience in international finance, public finance, and econometrics would be a plus.
- Familiar with statistical software such as STATA, R, or Python, advanced programming skill is a plus.

The School of Science, Technology, Engineering and Professional (STEP) deliver a key part of the College’s provision with programmes ranging from Level 1 to Level 6 HE, including an extensive apprenticeship provision.

The School is divided into a number of sections, with these roles based in the Further Education Business Section. This section delivers a range of vocational Business BTEC Level 1 to Level 3 programmes together with T levels in Accounting and Finance.

We are now seeking two Lecturers, one to teach on a variety of Business courses and levels across the curriculum area, including but not limited to: BTEC Business Studies Level 1, 2 & 3 and a Lecturer with an Accounting / Finance Specialism to teach primarily on the T-Level Finance and Accounting (Level 3) along with the BTEC Business Studies Level 1, 2 & 3.

As Lecturer in Business (Accounting Specialism), you will take responsibility for the group tutorship of one or more of courses within the School and contribute to the development of existing and new provision, as well as the implementation of flexible and cost effective teaching and learning styles.

We’re looking for someone who has excellent teaching skills and relevant teaching experience on BTEC programmes in Business, across a range of levels. You will hold a degree or relevant professional qualification in an appropriate subject and be able to support, motivate and empathise with learners, including monitoring their progress.

With energy, enthusiasm and passion for the subject and education, you will have high personal standards and expectations and be aware of academic quality standards. A teaching qualification is not essential however we do ask that you are willing to achieve one in line with current regulations.

The Role

The Sustainable and Green Finance Institute (SGFIN) is a new university-level research institute in the National University of Singapore (NUS), jointly supported by the Monetary Authority of Singapore (MAS) and NUS. SGFIN aspires to develop deep research capabilities in sustainable and green finance, provide thought leadership in the sustainability space, and shape sustainability outcomes across the financial sector and the economy at large.

To oversee the creation, management and execution of training in the relevant business vertical.• To ensures the successful integration of training and development programs so that employees can competently meet the business needs of the business.• To supervise the training and development section of the business.• To be responsible for coaching, mentoring and leading training managers.• To innovate and implement best in class practices in the field of training.• Liaising with the client to understand training needs for a certain project and effectively implementing tailor made training programs to assist successful transition of the project• Ensuring strict and absolute compliance to the training governance plan of the business• Reviewing and updating the governance plan as applicable• Identifying training and development needs within a business through job analysis, appraisal schemes and regular consultation with business managers and human resources departments• Designing and expanding training and development programs based on both the business' and the individual's needs • Managing the delivery of training and development programs and, in a more senior role, devising a training strategy for the business• Monitoring and reviewing the progress of trainers through one on one reviews• Ensuring that statutory training requirements are met (e.g., ISO requirements)• Evaluating trainers and training & development programs• To conduct all trainings as per plan for F&A in verticals like Manufacturing, Retail, etc.• To support trainers in conducting the training

The Associate Director, Research & Analysis (R&A) is critical to making this happen and will be a team lead role within the R&A team. Duties and Responsibilities

The Research Assistant will be responsible for working closely with the Principal Investigator on quantitative finance and fintech research projects. In particular, the research assistant is going to develop Machine Learning/Reinforcement Learning methods and apply them in the field of quantitative finance and risk management.

• Data Management: Utilize proficiency in SQL, NoSQL, and vector databases to collect, clean, and manage data for research projects.
• Research Assistance: Collaborate on research initiatives focused on credit recovery efficiency, applying quantitative finance and econometric methodologies to analyze data and develop models.
• Machine Learning: Apply expertise in reinforcement learning and traditional machine learning algorithms to develop predictive models and optimization strategies for credit recovery processes.
• Software Development: Leverage software development experience to create and maintain tools and applications necessary for research and data analysis.
• Cloud Infrastructure: Manage and optimize cloud infrastructure in AWS to support research initiatives and ensure scalability.
• Programming: Utilize skills in Python, TypeScript, and JavaScript, along with frameworks like PyTorch, to implement and test quantitative models.
• Financial Expertise: Apply knowledge of finance, especially in risk management, to contribute valuable insights to research projects.

Qualifications

• The candidate should have a Bachelor degree in Mathematics/Quantitative Finance or a related field. The candidate should have strong familiarities with quantitative finance problems such as portfolio optimization, credit rating, market making, and derivative pricing.
• The candidate should have expertise and research experiences in the areas of machine learning/reinforcement learning on quantitative finance problems. The candidate should have deep understandings of Markov Decision Process, Model-based and Model-free RL, Value/Policy Iterations, Q-learning, as well as designing and training of Neural Networks.
• Candidates who have experience with model uncertainty, model robustness, and inverse learning will be highly preferred.
• The candidate should have shown academic excellence and promising research potential. Strong publication record in internationally well-recognized journals is highly preferred. International scholarly visibility (e.g. conference presentations, academic visits) would also be favoured.
• The candidate should be an independent researcher as well as a good team player. The potential research projects might involve collaboration from various disciplines. Strong interpersonal, leadership, and project management skills are highly preferred.
