The duties and responsibilities of the Therapeutic Radiologic Technologist include but are not limited to the following:
- Receives prescriptions and instructions for procedures. Carries out assigned tasks independently, functioning at a more advanced level. Interprets the Radiation Oncologists' radiation prescription as related to the radiation therapy procedure.
- Receives assignments of varied complex difficulty that require application of standard procedure or that have special procedures identified and explained. Employee readily understands and carries out these assignments/requests with no interpretation required of the appropriate procedure.
- Properly identifies patient per VAHCS policy and radiation therapy procedure prior to performing appropriate radiation therapy procedure. Secures patients' confidence and cooperation by explaining procedures. Technologist positions patients for desired results, and cushions and/or shields patients as appropriate. Assists other technologists with patient care and patient care related tasks.
-Maintains appropriate markings on patient's skin or thermoplastic mask to facilitate exact position of treatment. If sub dermal marking(tattoo) is necessary, technologist explains procedure to patient prior to carrying out said procedure.
- Limits the radiation treatment field to specific sites utilizing multi-leaf collimators (MLCs) and/or custom 1ead block shielding. Treats patient utilizing equipment, collimators, and wedges to obtain the specific radiation beam as prescribed by the Radiation Oncologist.
- Operates ionizing radiation therapy equipment to simulate and/or treat patients independently. Determines and sets technical factors in accordance with standardized procedures and techniques. Makes initial determination that treatment is in compliance with prescription.
- Performs related clerical duties such as identifying standard data pertinent to the procedure, records data in electronic patient treatment records and work requests. Follows standard operating procedures to perform procedures. Occasionally deviates from standard procedures to adapt for deformities of body, injuries, and other variable considerations such as age and weight of patient.
Simulates patient set-ups of varied complexity utilizing CT simulator. Sends CT data promptly to dosimetry planning system. Properly utilizes accessory equipment as needed. Treats patient using electron and/or photon beams.
- Observes the radiation therapy course of the patient, including the progression of the disease and patient side effects and/or tissue complications or any other specific medical complaints as conveyed by the patient and reports these to the Radiation Therapy nurse and/or Radiation Oncologist.
- Records patient radiation treatments and pertinent treatment related data in electronic patient treatment records.
- Sets up radiation therapy treatment or simulation room prior to patient procedure. Assures that related patient supplies are present and well-stocked in room.
- Schedules patients in ARIA for simulation and radiation therapy appointments. Maintains simulation and treatment logs of patients and procedures used.
- Manufactures immobilizing and shielding devices as needed for patients to receive maximum benefits from radiation treatments and minimal radiation exposure to normal tissues.
- Performs routine port filming of patient treatment areas per department policy, utilizing virtual filming methods and equipment.
- Follows and trains other staff on all manufacturer instructions and local established Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) for medical supply/equipment decontamination, reprocessing, packaging, and sterilization functions.
- Serves as a leader in the Radiation Oncology clinic. Upholds professional standards, models professional behavior, demonstrates exemplary technical skills with a high level of attention to detail and thorough knowledge of service policies and procedures.
- Complies with all safety/fire prevention rules/regulations; using protective equipment when require and provided. Promptly reports all accidents and notifies supervisor of unsafe/unhealthful, conditions in the workplace. Attends scheduled training sessions and participates in facility or service level safety promotions

The Program Support Assistant will coordinate the solicitation and ongoing screening of Veterans in the Homeless Program. The incumbent will act as a liaison between the Homeless Program and other programs within Mental Health and the facility. The incumbent must possess the administrative and
interpersonal skills to communicate with clinicians about Veterans.
1. Greets and assists Veterans and other visitors to the Homeless program promptly and professionally in a positive and welcoming manner.
2. Receives and screens numerous telephone calls from Veterans or family members, community service providers, the public, and contractors.
3. Uses independent judgment in determining which visits or calls may be referred to the KCVA Homeless Program staff, those he/she can handle and those to be referred to a different program (such as Health Care for Homeless Veterans, or HCHV) for appropriate action.
4.Regular review of the case managers' panels of Veterans.
5. Regular contact with programs and program managers regarding referral of Veterans.
6. Responsible for coordinating, reviewing, and dispositioning all data/information pertaining to case managers' panels of Veterans.
7. Responsible for gathering information from the Veteran, clinician, and chart so that a complete data file exists on all Veterans in the Homeless program.
8. Obtains, sorts, reviews and distributes incoming mail, correspondence, inquiries, publications, regulations and directives to the appropriate staff with appropriate notation as to who is to prepare response.
9. Determines those that affect VA Homeless Program staff and disseminates appropriately to staff.
10. Other duties as assigned.

TIME LIMITED POSITION: This time-limited position will provide the peer support apprentice the time to learn and develop the necessary skills to perform as a peer specialist and to earn a peer specialist certification. After successful completion of a State or VA-approved contract vendor's peer specialist certification training process, and the necessary year of specialized experience, and time-in-grade requirements, the position would be eligible for a permanent, peer specialist position.
The Peer Support Apprentice functions as an interdisciplinary team member, assisting physicians and other professional/non-professional personnel in a rehabilitation treatment program. Peer support apprentices perform a variety of therapeutic and supportive tasks that include assisting Veterans in articulating their goals for recovery and personal wellness, learning and practicing new skills, helping them monitor their progress, assisting them in their treatment, modeling effective coping techniques and self-help strategies based on the apprentice's own recovery experience, and supporting them in advocating for themselves to obtain effective services. The position functions as a role model, exhibiting competency in personal recovery and use of coping skills and serves as an advocate, provides information and peer support services for Veterans in outpatient, inpatient and/or community settings. This individual must develop the ability to assist others in treatment, based on the principles of recovery, wellness, and resiliency, by promoting self-determination, personal responsibility, and the empowerment inherent in self-directed recovery. By inspiring the hope that recovery and resiliency are achievable goals, the position can assist and empower Veterans, who are diagnosed with mental illnesses and/or co-occurring disorders, as well as other chronic illnesses or injuries, to achieve their personal recovery goals. The position performs a wide range of tasks to assist Veterans in regaining independence within the community and mastery over their own recovery and wellness process. As an entry level position, most duties are performed under close supervision by either a licensed independent provider (LIP) or a non-licensed provider who works under a LIP. The purpose of the supervision is to facilitate learning and the development of skills. The knowledge required for this position will be attained through ongoing instruction provided by the supervisor or designee (e.g., the Local Recovery Coordinator). In addition, the position must complete a State or VA-approved contract vendor's certification training process, to be eligible to be hired as a peer specialist.
