The Electrical Advisor role is vital to the effective/efficient running of our flood risk pumping stations, water control structures, navigation Locks and our wider business. You will be joining a MEICA (Mechanical/Electrical/Instrumentation/Control/Automation) team helping to prioritise, plan and deliver the maintenance, modification or replacement of our crucial assets enabling flood protection to homes, businesses and the environment, which will have an increasingly important role as we face the challenge of global climate change. You will be working closely with external contractors to develop a world class asset management organisation.
The role will be responsible for providing strong technical leadership to assure technical and design standards. It will also be responsible for monitoring the quality and advising on the requirements to meet specialist MEICA technical, safety, legal, environmental and operational requirements, spreading across the South East geographic areas covering a diverse range of assets.
The successful candidate will understand the Electrical installation at circuit level, interpret schematics and line diagrams to remediate/modify/improve asset condition and apply ability to verify design and alteration. Industrial control system modification and alteration being a common need.
Confirmation of a valid UK Driving License is required to attain an interview.
Minimum HND or Pre 1999 HNC is preferred for this role.

Responding to incidents is a central part of what we do. You will be required to have an incident role and make yourself available to respond to incidents or provide business continuity support during an incident. This may attract an additional payment and full training and alternative working arrangements will be available to support you with your incident role.
The team
Joining our South East MEICA Team of mixed technical disciplines you will report to the MEICA Team Leader, acting as technical leader on MEICA activity and will participate in our response to flood incidents. You will provide technical electrical support and direction to other team members and be responsible for liaising with a wide range of business partners and leading on actions on behalf of the MEICA Team Leader and Operations Managers.
Experience/skills required
• IET Regulations and EICR are an advantage. Understand build quality through design and specification
• Knowledge of engineering statutory legislation, UK and European standards
• Sound knowledge and understanding of industrial control systems, to include MCC's, motor protection, heavy current starting mechanisms, VSD's, PLC and relay logic, Sensing devices such as Radar/Ultrasonic/Limit and proximity
• Ability to draft Project documentation, e.g. URS, Options Appraisals, Automation Risk Assessment, FMECA, Critique and assure FDS/SDS (Design)
• Knowledge of writing and reviewing Technical documentation, specifications, schematics and interpreting electrical drawings
• Experience and understanding of telemetry and distributed controls
• Experience in leading safety investigations, identifying and disseminating learning to improve engineering and behavioural safety
• Asset management, maintenance and CMMS use. A time served/craft background would be beneficial to the role
• Demonstrate delivering required tasks with ability to influence, persuade and bring others with you
