The International Water Management Institute (IWMI), a CGIAR Research Center is seeking a dynamic & multi skilled candidate to join its office in New Delhi, India, as a National Researcher - Water Quality & Waste Management.
The National Researcher - Water Quality & Waste Management will contribute to the CGIAR Initiative "Protecting human health through a One Health approach" and potentially other projects. The incumbent is expected to coordinate the project activities in the local context and provide scientific and technical assistance to relevant project leaders on livestock waste and wastewater management, waterborne pathogen monitoring, and health risk assessments.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Coordinate project activities in India, including those by partners and consultants.
- Design and conduct nationwide field surveys on livestock waste and wastewater management, waterborne zoonotic pathogen monitoring, and health risk assessments.
- Guide and support data collection through questionnaires, surveys, monitoring campaigns, and literature, as well as processing and interpreting such data as needed.
- Engage in technical writing and reporting, including intermediate reports, final reports, papers, and proposals.
- Conduct interviews (community, farmers, authorities, etc.) and assist in conducting stakeholder meetings.
- Develop policies, guidelines, and manuals covering waste and wastewater management, waterborne pathogen monitoring, and health risk assessments.
- Support project communication activities.
- Assist in quality control of partners', consultants', and interns' deliverables.
- Supervise consultants and interns when appropriate.
EDUCATIONAL QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
Essential
- MSc or equivalent academic qualifications in agricultural science/engineering, environmental science/engineering, or any related discipline. A PhD is preferred.
- At least 5 years of professional experience in the areas of waste and wastewater management, waterborne zoonotic pathogen monitoring, and/or health risk assessments, ideally with related research experience.
- Hands om experience in coordinating and supervising partners, consultants, or students.
- Exposure in conducting high-profile to community-level interviews and managing regional field surveys.
- Demonstrated experience in data collection and analysis.
Desired
- Experience in other developing countries in the areas of waste and wastewater management, waterborne zoonotic pathogen monitoring, and/or health risk assessments, ideally with related research experience.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES REQUIRED:
Essential
- An excellent understanding of livestock waste and water management in India.
- Proficiency in MS Office applications and database management.
- Proven abilities in technical and scientific writing.
- Ability to effectively establish priorities and plan, organize, implement, and monitor work activities with limited supervision.
- Excellent oral and written language skills in English, including effective listening and strong verbal and written communication abilities.
- Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with people in a multicultural and multidisciplinary environment, with sensitivity and respect for diversity.
Desired
- Proficiency in other local languages will be considered an asset.

This is a nationally recruited position and only candidates who are eligible to work in India will be considered. The duration of the contract will initially be for a period of two-years with the possibility of extension.
