The mission of Cancer Science Institute (National University of Singapore) is to better understand the causes of human cancer across Asia, and thereby improve its detection, treatment, and prevention. We are looking for an individual strong interest in oncology to fulfil the position of Scientific Officer in both Prof Lee Soo Chin and Prof Goh Boon Cher's lab. The selected candidate will support the research activities of the Principal Investigators (PIs) and their team by handling various administrative, managerial, and coordination tasks, as well as contributing to scientific writing and grant management. This role requires strong organizational, communication, and multitasking skills, as well as a deep understanding of the scientific research process.

Duties and Responsibilities

1. Liaison Between PI and Research Teams:Act as a bridge of communication between the PI and various research teams.
   Facilitate collaboration and information sharing among team members.
   
2. Research Progress Monitoring:Collect research progress reports from different teams.
   Compile comprehensive summaries of research findings and advancements for the PI's review.
   Conduct literature searches to gather relevant research articles and information to support the PI's work.
   Assist in the development of clinical trial and/or research study protocols.
   
3. Grant Support:Assist the PI in preparing grant applications.
   Draft research progress reports for grant reporting purposes.
   Monitor grant budget expenditures and assist with high-value purchases.
   Prepare grant variation and extension requests when necessary.
   Draft scientific documents such as grant proposals, manuscripts, press releases, conference submissions, and presentations.
   
4. Presentation and Publication Support:Assist in organizing and preparing materials for presentations, conferences, and academic publications.

The NIC produces a variety of all-source, IC coordinated intelligence reports, including its flagship product, the National Intelligence Estimate, which represents the Intelligence Community's most authoritative statement on a key national security issue.

Oversee the IC's production and coordination of strategic analysis, to include the preparation of National Intelligence Estimates, Intelligence Community Assessments, and other NIC products, on issues of importance to United States interests in global science and technology with particular focus on emerging technologies; make effective use of IC resources in analysis of global science and technology issues.

The Wildlife Rescue Officer will respond swiftly to distressed wildlife, caring for and relocating wild animals in line with ACRES SOPs. They work diligently, providing vital animal care and supporting rehabilitation efforts at our Wildlife Rescue Centre.

What will you do?

In our recent financial year, ACRES 24-hour wildlife rescue hotline handled over 14,000 calls to help distressed wildlife. The escalating need for assistance and educative rescues on the ground, necessitates a team who is fully equipped and able to deliver as much as possible. As a Wildlife Rescue Officer, your core responsibilities encompass wildlife rescue operations and strategic relocation efforts, meticulously aligned with ACRES's established Standard Operating Procedures (SOP). Concurrently, your role will extend to providing valuable assistance at our Wildlife Rescue Centre.

How will you do it? (Responsibilities and Duties)

· Emergency Response: Promptly respond to wildlife rescue calls through the designated hotline, prioritizing timely and appropriate action.

· Animal Care and Rehabilitation: Perform comprehensive daily care duties for rescued animals, including enclosure maintenance, food preparation, and providing necessary enrichment activities.

· Veterinary Assistance: Assist in the safe handling and treatment procedures for rescued wild animals, adhering to established medical protocols and guidelines.

This advertisement is for recruiting for the position of 1. Science Laboratory Assistant & 2. Operations Support Officer.

If successfully selected, you will be seconded to a MOE Primary located in Edgedale.

Contract Period : From 1 Jan 2024 to 31 Dec 2024.

Personnel to be deployed at the following hours for :

1.Science Laboratory Assistant

• Mondays to Thursdays : 7:15am to 4:15pm, inclusive of 30 min lunch break
• Fridays : 7:15am to 3:45pm, inclusive of 30 min lunch break
• Service is not required on Saturdays, Sundays and gazetted public holidays.

2. Operations Support Officer (May be deployed to either of the following shifts depending on school needs:

• Mondays (1 shift) : 6:00am to 2.30pm, (2nd Shift) : 10:30am to 7:00pm (inclusive of 30min lunch break).

Job Scope for Science Laboratory Assistant duties/responsibilities include but not restricted to the following:

Teaching & Learning Support

• To prepare science apparatus and equipment for science experiments
• To assist/support teachers in the conduct of science experiments and science enrichment programmes which include Applied Learning Programme (ALP), E2K, hydroponics and eco trails
• To assist teachers in the preparation of resources for science competitions and projects and science-related CCAs
• To monitor the operations of the Hydroponics System
• To support in the preparation of resources for science department events
• To ensure the safety of the science rooms by keeping updated on safety guidelines and adhering to safety protocols on the use of equipment and materials

Inventory Management Support

• To monitor the utilisation rate of the science rooms, science resources and apparatus.
• To conduct stock-takes of science resources, apparatus, equipment and consumables
• To check on usability of science apparatus and equipment and collate list of damaged items to be repaired or replaced
• To collate items to be replenished for teaching and learning of science
• To monitor the loaning out and returning of desk copies by science teachers

Student matters

• To assist student in times of need for eg, lost & found items, change of uniform, cleaning of students with vomiting, locating teacher/classroom/ parent
• To collect items from classroom after school if needs arise
• To escort student for medical treatment if needs arise

Operations

• To maintain cleanliness and tidiness of the General Office, classrooms & special rooms
• To disinfect rooms as and when required
• To assist in logistic matters for eg, preparation of rooms for school events and functions including of shifting of furniture.
• To assist delivery and distributing external materials to classrooms.
• To assist in disinfecting of furniture and equipment during times of emergency or pandemic

Science Laboratory Assistant

• GCE ‘O’ Level Certificate or equivalent qualification (with at least 1 combined Science subject).
• At least 3 years of experience working in a primary school environment as science lab assistant Good interpersonal and communication skills
• Meticulous with good planning and organising abilities
• Knowledge in the preparation and setting up of apparatus and materials in both Life Science and Physical Science
• Interacts well with students

Operations Support Office

• Minimum 1 year experience working in a primary school environment.
• Good communication and interpersonal skills

As a Science Officer you will:

• Serve as the primary scientific advisor to the CIO Director and Deputy Director, and other senior staff, on science issues in public health, epidemiology, biostatistics, economics, behavioral science, and related disciplines.
• Review and officially clear documents and other materials for public dissemination or publication in scientific and other peer reviewed publications, according to the procedures set forth by CDC and the individual Center.
• Oversee, provide guidance and ensure that all CIO scientific research, publications and communications meet the highest standards of quality and integrity and are in accord with all human subjects and other ethical standards.
