2. Planning & Development

• Take responsibility for at least one aspect of D&T curriculum development each year following discussion and negotiation with the department leadership team (eg, creating a new scheme of work, drafting of departmental policy, organisation of trip).
• Assist the D&T department leadership team in evaluating and developing the new curriculum.
• Take advantage of opportunities for professional development offered by Tanglin.
• Take responsibility for their professional development and that of colleagues by occasionally leading departmental inset or department meetings in an area of expertise.
• Assist the HOD (Head of Department) in identifying areas for development in D&T within the broader aims of the school development plan.
• Collaborate with colleagues in the planning and delivery of schemes of work, including the choice of appropriate teaching and learning methods to meet the needs of the subject and of different pupils.

3. Management of Resources and the Teaching Environment:

• Assist the HOD in identifying appropriate resources within the limits of the departmental budget.
• Assist the HOD in ensuring that departmental rooms present stimulating environments that help to influence pupils’ attitudes positively towards D&T.

4. Assessment, Recording & Reporting

• Ensure students’ work is regularly assessed according to D&T departmental policy and that homework is in line with school policy.
• Report to parents in accordance with the school’s reporting policy as laid down in the Staff Handbook.
• To use information gained from assessment, recording and reporting procedures to generate further improvement in pupil achievement.
• Assist the HOD in the setting and marking of school examinations and to supervise entries for external examinations.

5. Pastoral and Co-Curricular

• Lead the development of the F1 in Schools program in D&T.
• Contribute to co-curricular activities that broaden pupils’ experiences and contribute to the general life of the school.
• When required, take on a form tutor role in the Senior School and fulfil the responsibilities of that position.
• Follow the School’s policies and procedures regarding discipline and behaviour, daily routines, duties, homework, leave of absence, and visits, as laid down in the Staff Handbook.
• Be responsible for reporting any concerns about a child to the Designated Safeguarding Lead.

6. Communication and Liaison

• Help to establish an ability to spot and solve problems and to increase resilience in learning, through your own enthusiasm for the subject.
• Contribute wholeheartedly to D&T department activities such as supporting each school with projects, planning ‘House Day’ activities, ‘Children’s University’ and transition days.
• Attend and contribute to meetings of a professional nature with HOD, HOF, HOY, SSLT and in other circumstances when requested.

Project Overview

This project aims to develop a real-time blood analysis and diagnostic platform using an integrated microfluidic chip. This platform uses precision microfluidic technology to process and profile the biological activity of white blood cells which is related to a host of inflammatory conditions ranging from diabetes, sepsis to leukemia. The platform developed will enable point-of-care diagnosis of diseases and this project will accelerate the platform from bench to bedside through the development, deployment and testing of clinical samples.

This Engineering position offers a rare opportunity to bridge the gap between laboratory discovery of new technologies and real-world implementation of clinical deployment and testing.

Responsibilities

The engineer is responsible for the design, prototype, manufacturing and testing of the medical device. This involves the use of with computer-aided design prototyping, setting specifications and assembly of mechnical/electrical components, testing and deployment of device for field testing.

Responsibilties include:

- To work closely with a team of clinical, mechanical/software engineers and data scientist for the medical device design and prototyping. Gather feedbacks on prototype designs by end-users.

- To Validate designs by analysing data gathered from component or system level testing. Use benchmarking techniques to characterise component and device performance.

- To ensure proper documentation of design history files and standardization of data storage for reports, presentations, technical and administrative documents.

- To source for vendors and components to ensure manufacturability and cost of medical device.

Requirements

- Bachelors/Masters or Ph.D. in Mechanical, Electrical, Biomedical Engineering, or a relevant field with experience developing and supporting embedded systems.

- Rapid prototyping experience in areas such as 3D printing, laser cutting, CNC, injection molding, microcontroller/microprocessor programming and relevant skills in embedded system.

Job Description

This job aims to address some critical issues about realizing on-chip structured light field manipulation through inverse design. The main targets are threefold:

1. Understand in depth the inverse design in integrated photonics, and on-chip structured light. Explore new effects, novel phenomena, unique features, and high-performance devices based on inverse design structures. Research directions include high-performance topological photonics coupling and routing devices, all-optical logic and computing devices, etc.

2. Enhance the robustness of inverse design methods to accommodate lithography process errors and facilitate high-throughput manufacturing. Combining inverse design and new material platforms, the research results should be able to effectively provide useful guidance for the design of optical devices based on chalcogenide glass materials (such as GeSbSe) and phase change materials (such as SbSe), and develop new near-infrared, mid-infrared high-performance optical devices.

3. Find practical solutions, establish a unified paradigm for on-chip complex high-dimensional light field manipulation based on inverse design, and expand the application scope of inverse design. Explore the application of inverse design in topological photonics, structured light, and other fields. Finally, one or two prototypical designs should be experimentally demonstrated.

Considering the above research targets, the candidate should possess in-depth physical insights and interdisciplinary knowledge of inverse design, integrated photonics, chalcogenide photonics, structured light, topological photonics, mid-infrared photonics, SOI, etc.

Applicants with practical experience in the design, manufacturing and characterization of mid-infrared and near-infrared photonic systems are preferred.

Qualifications

1. PhD Degree in Physics, Photonics, Electrical Engineering or relevant area with a strong background in integrated photonics and inverse design.
2. Working experience in the field of inverse design, mid-infrared photonics, chalcogenide photonics, structured light, and optical logic gates.
3. Mathematics and specific knowledge required in electromagnetics, inverse design, chalcogenide photonics, phase change materials, mid-infrared photonics, and topological electromagnetics.

Job Description

This job aims to address some critical issues in the development of a multi-dimensional photodetector capable of simultaneously capturing optical information such as polarization, wavelength, and optical angular momentum. The main targets are threefold:

1. Understand in depth about the fundamental properties of light including helicity, chirality, polarization, and optical angular momentum. Investigate how these light properties interact with materials and/or structures with different symmetry properties. Research directions include chiral / nonreciprocal / nonlinear optical processes, integrated photonic devices, etc.

2. Study the symmetry properties of 2D materials as well as metasurfaces and nanostructures. The targeted design of a multi-dimensional photodetector should utilize these symmetry properties to enhance the effectiveness, robustness, and responsivity of photodetection of the various optical information, including but not limited to polarization and optical angular momentum.

3. Find the practical schemes to implement a multidimensional photodetector by integrating 2D materials / Tellurides with nanostructures that can allow effective, robust, and simultaneous photodetection of polarization, optical angular momentum, etc. The practical devices should also possess ultrathin nature, the ability to convert multidimensional light information to electrical signals, and the ability to operate at room temperature. At last, one or two prototypical designs should be experimentally demonstrated.

Considering the above research targets, the candidate should possess in-depth physical insights and interdisciplinary knowledge of 2D materials, symmetry analysis, metasurfaces etc. Practical experience in the design, fabrication, optical characterization and measurement of optical devices is preferred.

Qualifications
