Illumina is seeking a Senior Human Factors Engineer to join our growing team of experience designers and researchers as we build best-in-class customer experiences across all Illumina hardware and software products. You must be highly skilled with human factors and ergonomics research, applied cognitive research and human-machine integration design. Successful candidates should have a solid foundation in designing medical device experiences and well versed with appropriate standards including IEC 62366-1 and -2, ANSI/AAMI HE75 and FDA guidance on Applying Human Factors and Usability Engineering to Medical Devices. Experience with international regulatory bodies including IVDD and EU IVDR 2017/746 is a plus.

In this role you will be responsible for driving human factors across a wide range of projects and must be comfortable conducting human factors research to understand user needs and use-related risk analysis to inform the design of research and clinical products. Supporting and/or leading usability risk analyses as well as planning, conducting, analyzing and reporting on formative, summative usability studies and final human factors use validation and human factors task knowledge studies is an integral part of the work. Experience collaborating with regulatory groups to create human factors documentation required for medical devices and IVD submission to medical device regulatory agencies is a plus. You must be extremely organized, comfortable creating detailed documentation, and thrive in collaborating with others to drive towards success.

• Define and design human factors solutions for new product development projects from product conception through post-release
• Provide Human Factors support across the product lifecycle including customer and user needs identification, development of user and use environment profiles and use cases, end-to-end workflows diagrams, requirements specification, information architectures, design concepts (e.g. creation of story boards), usability testing, summative usability studies, use error analysis and risk assessment
• Create and execute human factors plans, usability evaluations, scenarios/use case validations, human factors validation studies to ensure products can be used safely and effectively, and other user-centered design research

The estimated base salary range for the Sr. Human Factors Engineer (Onsite) role based in the United States of America is: $115,800 - $173,800. Job Summary

Acquires job skills to resolve routine tasks requiring limited judgement. Focus is on routine tasks, using limited judgement of standard operating procedures. Supports the overall team.

Responsibilities

Queue Management / Reporting

• Reviews work order requests in the queue and responds to routine work orders by adhering to commitment times

• Involved in escalating and expediating higher level orders, upon supervision

• Actively follows up on work orders in the queue to support the overall team

• Maintains notes and records of activity fulfillment in the ticketing system

Installations

• Rack and stack basic customer equipment, with guidance from more senior team members.

• Supports routine intra-cage and infrastructure installations, under guidance, which may include:

• - routine ladder racks and basic fiber raceways; -  basic cable management and support systems (patch panels); - routine ground cabinets and basic post racks; and may perform tape changes and basic backup necessities

Cross-Connect

• Supports basic cross-connect troubleshooting

Testing / Troubleshooting

• Supports basic testing and routine installations of customer assets

• Supports standard layer 1 cross-connect certification testing, under supervision

• May learn more semi-routine testing, under supervision

Stakeholder Partnership

• Supports the operations and security personnel team for breaks or other activities, when necessary

Customer Management

• Supports customer satisfaction with timely adherence to following basic order execution requirements

• Delivers quality customer service experience when interfacing with customers

• Discusses time expectations on new deployments, by following standard operating procedure guidelines

• May support customers on-site through access and escorting services

Projects

• Supports fulfillment of projects under close supervision

Training

• Completes assigned training in a timely manner

What You Will Do:

The Expert Human Factors Engineer plays a vital role in ensuring that products and processes within the Veterans Health Administration meet the highest standards of usability, accessibility, and user satisfaction. If you are passionate about leveraging human factors engineering to improve the lives of veterans and their caregivers, we encourage you to apply for this impactful position.

Responsibilities may include the following:

• Monitor Industry Trends: Stay abreast of the latest advancements in human factors engineering, incorporating cutting-edge research and industry best practices into product evaluations and design strategies.
• Perform Usability Assessments: Perform usability assessments leveraging industry tools (e.g., NASA TLX, SUS) to identify areas for improvement and suggest redesigns or mitigations to minimize negative impacts on users.
• Implement Human Centered Design: Visualize and anticipate the effects of design changes on diverse user groups, ensuring inclusivity and accessibility in all aspects of product development.
• Support Live Technical Demonstrations: Provide expert guidance and make thoughtful suggestions during live demo calls, reacting adeptly to participant feedback and insights during user sessions.
• Leverage Agile Methodologies: Demonstrate proficiency in SAFe's Lean Agile principles and practices, driving value and operational excellence through the empowerment of high-performing Agile teams.

What You Will Need:

• Doctorate Degree in Human Factors Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Psychology, or a related field.
• Minimum of 12 years of experience in human factors engineering or a closely related field, with a focus on applications in healthcare.
• Deep understanding of human factors engineering principles, research methodologies, and usability standards.
• Experience with SAFe's Lean Agile principles and practices, with a demonstrated ability to drive organizational change and foster operational excellence through Agile methodologies.

What Would Be Nice To Have:

• Experience supporting the VA or VHA preferred
• Experience supporting public or private health systems preferred
• Experience with Oracle Cerner

The annual salary range for this position is $109,100.00-$163,700.00. Compensation decisions depend on a wide range of factors, including but not limited to skill sets, experience and training, security clearances, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs.
