Effectively manages difficult and/or complex communication situations e.g. breaking bad news, dealing with concerns and complaints, performance management issues. Actively participate in professional groups and forums within, and where appropriate external to the organisation. Communicates regularly and effectively with the Matron for the area regarding all aspects of clinical care and service provision, including budgetary, personnel and environmental issues. Communicates with a range of stakeholders and key links e.g. Matrons, SLMs, Operational Directors, Clinical Leads, Chief / Deputy Chief Nurse, GPs, nursing and medical colleagues across primary and secondary care, professional and technical support staff, PPF, Social Services, Facilities, Administrative and Technical staff. Knowledge, Skills, Training and Experience Essential RN (Adult) qualification with current NMC Registration A degree in nursing or health related subject Experience at band 6 Experience of caring for patients with acute medical problems Facilitating learning and assessment in practice qualification or equivalent Understanding of pre-registration curriculum Evidence of ongoing professional development Experience of effectively managing people and resources Substantial competence/experience in care delivery Experience of change management Evidence of involvement in innovation in clinical practice/service development Experience of involvement in audit High level of interpersonal and communication skills. Mentorship/Coaching skills Strong leadership and team working skills. Ability to assess and benchmark quality care Excellent organisational skills and the ability to prioritise workload. Expert knowledge, clinical skills and experience in the area of practice. Thorough understanding of contemporary nursing issues. Work as part of MDT. Management skills. IT skills/knowledge appropriate to the role Desirable Counselling skills. Leadership / Management qualification. Specialist post registration nursing qualifications / university modules. Planning and Organisational Skills Lead the planning and organisational of both direct and indirect patient care and service delivery. Responsible for the safe staffing and skills mix within the ward/dept through the planning of duty rotas, annual leave and study leave. Analyse situations and plan short and longer term adjustments to own workload and that of others to meet priorities and demands. Lead the planning and implementation of audits to meet the needs of reviews, service development and improvements in specialist area of practice Identifies and plans the provision of education and training for all staff May be required to act as the person with Site responsibility on a rota basis to ensure the provision of continuing senior nurse cover within the Trust. Service Development Lead the continuing development of the service Lead the continuing development of the wider MED 1 service, actively engaging and collaborating with the wider ECC team such as ED, EAU and UTC. Contribute to the development/implementation of new policies and guidelines within the clinical area with a specific regard to the impact on patient care.
