Seeking a suitably qualified and reliable Chemical and Waste Management Officer who will be responsible for the development, implementation, monitoring, and evaluation of the Chemical and Waste Management (CWM) activities and make sure that OceanaGold Corporation’s environmental benchmarks and regulatory requirements are consistently complied with. The role will be reporting to the Environment Advisor – Chemical and Waste Management.
Key tasks and responsibilities:
• Participate in carrying out impact assessments to identify, assess and reduce the organization’s environmental risks;
• Participate in developing and implementing environmental strategies and action plans related to chemical and waste management performance targets to align with Environment Policy;
• Conduct inspections/field validation to ensure implementation of environmental policies, practices, environmental management systems, and special programs;
• Report all aspects of chemical and waste management activities to the immediate supervisor;
• Conduct inspection/field validation to ensure that findings of audits and corrective actions are implemented as per the agreed timeframe;
• Promote and contribute to raising awareness, at all levels of the organization, of the impact of emerging environmental issues, whether legislative or best practice, on corporate, ethical, and social responsibility;
• Attend public hearings and consultations on environmental matters;
• Implement continuous improvement initiatives in environmental management to set the benchmark for other mining operations;
• Conduct inspection/field validation to ensure compliance with environmental legislation and keeping up to date with the Philippines, and international regulation and legislation;
• Provide support and assistance in liaising with relevant regulatory agencies and other stakeholders;
• Conduct inspection/field validation to ensure compliance and adherence of the CWM Unit with the Environmental Management System (EMS) ISO 14001;
• Conduct inspection/field validation to ensure compliance and adherence of the CWM Unit with the Energy Management System (EnMS) ISO 50001; and
• Conduct inspection/field validation to ensure compliance and adherence of the CWM Unit with the Occupational Health and Safety Management System (EMS) ISO 45001.
