The post holder will work under the direct supervision of one clinical academic and KNLs education lead (Ahilan Kailaya-Vasan). The post includes opportunities to study towards higher degrees and would suit individuals interested in pursuing an academic or a clinical career with an academic interest. This is a 12-month fixed term clinical academic post. The post holder will work as a Trust grade SHO and will include clinical and research duties, including 2 months of dedicated research time. Clinical duties will include inpatient care and out-of-hours on call duties. The post holder will gain experience in applied translational research and will work closely with clinical research coordinators, research clinicians, scientists and engineers. Academic responsibilities include primary benchside research, running clinical trials, applying for research grants and completing a relevant systematic review. The post holder must complete Good Clinical Practice training prior to commencing the post. The NIHR TM-MIC is funded to build expertise and capacity in the NHS to support the development of new medical technologies to enable improved management of the trauma care pathway from the point of injury through to stabilisation and recovery. MD-TEC is a unique, state of the art usability facility undertaking ergonomic and user-based testing on pre regulatory medical technologies The Clinical Director Professor Tom Clutton-Brock is a senior clinical academic in anaesthesia and intensive care with a career long success in bringing new medical devices to market. We are seeking to recruit a Clinical Research Fellow in anaesthesia who will be supervised by Professor Clutton-Brock and Simon Smart to provide the clinical lead on all innovation studies. The majority of studies will be around usability; however it is anticipated that there will be some requirement around clinical investigation development and delivery, along with adoption evaluations.

The post holder will gain a wide range of experience at Senior House Officer level in Emergency Medicine, in addition to specific experience in critical care and the care of major trauma. Some previous experience in A & E is essential and a recognised certification in Advanced Life Support is preferable. There will be Consultant, Specialty Doctor and Specialty Trainee available for advise/supervision at all times. During this time the post holder will work both in the minor injuries area, the trolley areas and will be expected to act as a resuscitation room doctor in times of need.

Applications are 12/24 month posts, depending on experience, grade and preference of specialty. Training Design1. To develop appropriate end user training and reference materials, based on departmental processes and system requirements.2. To co-ordinate and complete the necessary preparation of training facilities prior to delivery of training courses.2. During the past year we saw over 100,000 patients within our Emergency department which is one of the busiest in the country.The post-holder will work with the diabetes/general medicine and endocrinology team to provide diabetes & endocrinology/ general medicines service to a catchment population across Staffordshire, Leek Moorlands and North Shropshire. The successful applicant will join a Diabetes and Endocrinology team made up of 8 Consultants. We also have 2 x 28-bedded acute medical wards where most of the patients with acute metabolic diseases are admitted, supported by junior and middle grade staff.
