Senior Video Engineer

We’re looking for our first dedicated Senior Video Engineer to help in the pursuit of our ambitious product roadmap. You’ll have deep technical experience in compression engineering and transcoding and a collaborative approach to engineering. You'll solve complex technical problems and help define the parameters of our projects in the video engineering area.

The role
This a critical role in which you'll make an impact on both the code base as well as from the perspective of people management. Your experiences will allow you to make contributions as an individual contributor while also leading, managing and guiding junior engineers as an engineering stakeholder.

The role sits within our product development team, and you’ll report to Michael Shaw, our CTO. You'll work closely with the engineering team, the executive and members of other departments to align engineering with other critical business functions. Your work will provide additional structure and certainty to the development process and relieve the Executive member of the engineering team of people management functions, allowing them to focus on both executive and development duties.

What you'll do

Low latency video encoding.
This role will suit an Engineer that has significant experience working in a company that specialises in video processing. You will be at the centre of development and your skill set will boost our current capabilities. Your priority will be to understand our current video pipeline, make improvements to existing work and support the product road map overall.

Working autonomously yet collaboratively.
You’ll need to be comfortable working with a high degree of autonomy and be able to act in an advisory capacity on video processing - we're looking for someone that is happy to take others on the journey with them. Your past experiences will inform the technologies, structures and processes that best suit the project and our desired outcomes.

Performance Optimisation.
You will be obsessed with squeezing every drop of performance out of the hardware and the code. You’ll make technical decisions which reduce latency and strain on the limited resource environments that our software runs in. We need to ensure that we support all high-quality video formats, without sacrificing performance.

Highly visible work with a large-scale impact.
You’ll have the opportunity to come into our engineering environment and make an immediate, large-scale impact. You’ll be tasked with developing leading-edge video encoding solutions for a highly visible product with an active user base in the millions. Your ideas, input and experience will not only be valued but will form an integral part of the product development process.

Skills
- Experience in-large scale codebases
- Highly skilled in low-level programming in objective C, C or C++
- Significant experience with HDR/EDR rendering
- Demonstrated ability with tone mapping and colour profiling techniques
- Deep understanding of video compression and processing standards and codecs such as H264/H265
- Experience or familiarity with Apple encoding frameworks such as VideoToolbox
- Comfortable developing parsers/output of popular codec formats (e.g mkv)
- Experience in hands-on roles working on video processing, image scaling and frame rate conversion or other related multimedia software development

In 1-3 months, you will...
- Complete our onboarding process and become familiar with your colleagues and our workplace culture and tech stack.
- Familiarise and become comfortable with our engineering environment.
- Start work on building out our proxy generation system to reduce strain on resources and allow for real-time playback.
- Assess and make recommendations around our HDR rendering, colour profiling capability and our video pipeline in general.

In 3-6 months, you will...
- Start work on extending our video container support, both in breadth and depth.
- Detail colour requirements to ensure top-tier colour grading and profiling capabilities.
- reiterate and improve existing implementation as well as conceptualise new features, technologies and workflows.

In 6-12 months, you will...
-Have built functional video containers.
- Completed the proxy builds and directed the engineering team on requirements for handling HDR for HDR10/HDR10+/Dolby Vision.

We're looking for a Customer Support Specialist to join our Product team in Hobart, Tasmania. The person that fills this role will help us serve our large and growing user base by fielding support requests and general enquiries. You'll need to be an excellent communicator with the ability to understand people and a solution oriented mind set. There is an opportunity with this role to work on a flexible basis and distribute a full-time work load across both weekdays and weekends. Flexibility in schedules can be negotiated with the Head of Product Care.

The role
This role sits within the Product team, and you’ll report directly to the CPO, Claire d’Este. You’ll work closely with the CEO, Co-Founder, and Chief Product Designer, James Cuda. You’ll also work with other designers in both the product and marketing departments as well as our software engineers.

This is a very broad role in which you'll take a top down approach to reviewing, analysing and improving our software development life cycle. What you'll do.

Developing custom software and solving complex technical problems. You’ll be responsible for managing and improving our system infrastructure. You’ll keep your finger on the pulse of relevant technological developments. This will ensure that we are modernising and operating consistently within industry best practice.

Ensuring the highest levels of system and infrastructure availability. You'll design, develop and support software components across the entire engineering environment and tech stack. In doing so, you’ll Identify areas for improvement in the SDLC and design and implement solutions and fixes for those problems. Your work will provide practical long-term solutions for complex technical issues.

Plan and develop product and features which align with product roadmap. You'll identify mission critical tasks and projects and optimise our software development life cycle to ensure that maintenance, testing, and delivering updates do not inhibit our long-term product roadmap.

Demonstrate leadership. We’re a relatively small team that needs people that can hit the ground running and work autonomously in a rapidly changing engineering environment. You’ll exhibit leadership in the way you approach software development but also in your personal interactions and your ability to mentor more junior engineers.

The role

We’re looking for Interface Engineers to join our team in Hobart, Tasmania. You’ll join our product team and build and maintain next generation Procreate products and features.

You’ll be a design-minded engineer with an intuitive understanding for creating seamless user interfaces and delightful digital interactions. You’ll work closely with our designers to bring form to prototypes and continually iterate to solve user experience problems.

This role sits with the Product team and reports directly to the CTO, Michael Shaw. You’ll collaborate with engineers, the product care department and members of the executive.

What you'll do.

Shape new technology and new experiences.
You'll work closely with designers to turn prototypes into shippable product. The work you do will uphold our exacting standards for usability and functionality. You’ll develop and maintain software, find and fix bugs, implement ongoing updates and publish product to the App store.

Creating custom controls, aesthetically pleasing layouts and seamless animations.
At Procreate, a product is never really finished. We aim to continually improve, refine and push technological boundaries. Along with our designers, you’ll strike a balance between adhering to our design principles and creating innovative and unique experiences for our users.

Solving complex and unique technical problems.
We consider our engineers to be creatives. As a Procreate engineer, you’ll have the chance to think outside the box to create custom and unique software solutions. In your process and implementation, you’ll demonstrate an ability to depart from the specifics of a brief or the parameters of a particular method to fully flesh out an idea or concept.

Protect quality, ensure performance and show care for our users.

- Understanding of iOS frameworks including Core Animation, Core Image and Core Data.

We are looking for a Senior Graphics Engineer to join our team here in Hobart. You’ll join our rendering team building the next generation rendering and painting engine that drives the future of Procreate product

The role.

We are looking for a Senior Graphics Engineer to join our team here in Hobart. You’ll join our rendering team building the next generation rendering and painting engine that drives the future of Procreate products. You’ll make meaningful contributions to our graphics pipeline, low-level optimisation, shader development, general compute and help us push the performance limits of virtual texturing.

You’ll need a deep understanding of GPU architecture and an ability to write performant and maintainable code. You’ll work directly on our proprietary engine, Valkyrie and help shape our next generation of in-house engine tech.

This role sits within the Product team and reports directly to the CTO, Michael Shaw. You’ll work directly with all members of the Product team, the CPO and CEO as well as members of the Product Care department.

What you'll do.

Systems engineering.
You’ll have expertise in low-level systems programming in C/C++ and will write high-quality, performant and maintainable code. You’ll be comfortable working in large scale, interdependent systems. Your understanding of GPU architecture and work in GPGPU will allow you to allocate resources and solve performance issues in novel and creative ways.

Performance optimisation and compute.
You’ll spend time extracting as much performance out of the hardware as possible. Your experiences in development for consoles or mobile devices will set you up for success in our engineering environment. The team you will join will be tasked with developing next generation software that pushes the hardware to its limits in low-latency, real-time systems.

Development or customisation of in-house engines.
You’ll have made significant contributions to in-house/custom game or rendering engines or made modifications and alterations to commercial engines which allow development of purpose-specific features or functionality. In this role, you’ll contribute towards and refine our mission critical engine architecture.

Refining our graphics pipeline.
You’ll be involved in leading-edge real-time rendering and shader development practices. You’ll work with our product designers, product owner and other engineers to deliver industry-leading graphics experiences and functionality to our growing global user base.

Skills.

- CPU/GPU optimisation and debugging
- Familiarity with Apple’s Metal architecture
- Expert/specialist in C, C++ - low-level programming
- Tool-based approach to profiling and debugging (RenderDoc)
- Understanding of a range of design patterns and data structures.
- Experience with relevant modern graphics APIs (Vulkan, Metal, DirectX11)
- Deep involvement with rendering pipeline development in a r- elated domain
- Mathematical background and familiarity with linear algebra and trigonometry.
