Nature and aim of the position

Currency Select, a leading provider of payment card processing services and a subsidiary of the Global Blue Group (www.globalblue.com), a leading provider of Global Tourist Tax Free processing services is seeking an experienced Applications Support Engineer to provide technical applications management support for core payment applications and solutions.

Reporting to the Manager Applications Support in Sydney, the role’s focus will be to support, monitor and maintain the efficiency and availability of our software applications.  In this role, you will work closely with external software vendors, our Infrastructure, and internal development team and our IT operations teams.

To succeed, you should possess extensive experience in providing application support in a fast-paced environment and have a proactive approach to application support to manage required tasks.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

• Providing software application support as directed by Manager Applications Support.

• Perform analyses of software application functionality and suggest improvements.
• Ensure effective front end and back end functionality of applications.
• Consult with software vendors, software development teams, internal users, and clients to improve application performance.
• Manage code migration across environments to ensure continued and synchronized functionality.
• Establish root causes for application errors and escalate serious concerns to management.
• Keep records of configuration changes and schedule application updates.
• Document processes and monitor application performance metrics.
• Providing technical support to clients and internal users in other departments.
• Assisting with systems integrations.
• Maintain and update technical documents and procedures.
• Assist in preparing maintenance plans and upgrade schedules for applications.

Key Competencies

• Minimum 5-year of Application Support experience
• 3-year of working experience ideally within a payments processing business
• Working experience with Linux Operating Systems and Oracle Database
• Working knowledge of payment clearing and settlement processes

Preferable Skills and Competencies

• Demonstrable experience as an Application Support Engineer.
• Prior experience in providing application support for ACI Acquirer Module, ACI

Interchange Module & Control-M application is highly desirable.

• Ability to manage code migration, document configuration changes, and monitor application performance.
• C programming skills and background
• Linux shell scripting experience
• Advanced SQL scripting
• Data modelling skills
• Competency to provide broader support across internal departments.
• Exceptional analytical and trouble-shooting skills.
• Working experience in payment processing business is highly preferred.
• Strong organizational skills with ability to prioritize workload.
• Maturity in managing expectations: change requests, dealing with unexpected incident, and supporting technical issues through to resolution.
• Be details oriented, with high quality standards and accuracy in work, independent, goal oriented and with self-motivating personality.
• Excellent in English (written and spoken), other languages are desirable.

Education and Background Qualifications

• The incumbent should be a university graduate and hold qualifications in IT, computing and/or engineering with at least 5 years of experience working as an Application Support Engineer. They should have strong analytical and trouble-shooting capabilities, and a proven track-record in providing support for critical enterprise application.

Main duties and responsibilities

• Design, build, and maintain efficient, reusable, and reliable Java code • Ensure the best possible performance, quality, and responsiveness of applications • Identify bottlenecks and bugs, and devise solutions to these problems • Help maintain code quality, organization, and automatization • Work as part of a product development SCRUM team • Mentor and coach the junior software developers within the same UoV team

Reporting and collaboration
• The holder of the position reports to a Product Development Manager.
• The holder of the position manages and works daily with UoV team
• The holder of the position collaborates with the other developers, QA testers and Business Units

Key competencies

• Minimum 8 years of hands-on experience and proficient in Java, with a good knowledge of its ecosystems • Expertise in most of the followings: Spring Boot, Spring Integration Framework, Junit, Maven, STS, Oracle DB, BitBucket, Git, SOUP UI, JavaScript • Familiarity with architecture styles/APIs (REST, RPC) • Experience in Agile development (Jira, Confluence) • Knowledge of REST and RPC APIs • Understanding fundamental design principles behind a scalable application • Strong attention to detail • Excellent troubleshooting skills

Education and qualifications
• Computer Science or Engineering degree or relevant work experience
• Solid understanding of Agile (SCRUM) development processes • Experience in payment/finance industry will be an added advantage
