Scope of work
The RN, under the ANA scope of practice utilizes the framework of the nursing process to provide professional nursing care by incorporating patient-family centered care principles to assess, plan, implement, evaluate, and discharge. The RN provides quality patient care under the direction of the Nurse Leader according to Corewell Health policies and procedures and recognizes the impact of nursing care and patient/family partnerships on patient outcomes. The RN partners with and utilizes patient/family input and goals in planning plan of care and develops teaching strategies for patient/family; documents education and learning appropriately in health record.

GENERAL SUMMARY:
Under the direction of phlebotomy management, performs diverse support functions including phlebotomy to ensure accurate test results and a quick turnaround time. Positions supporting Patient Service Centers and client offices are required to provide phlebotomy services to these locations as determined by department needs and may be assigned to different locations and/or different schedules without a 30-day notice. This position reports to the Phlebotomy Services Coordinator, or the Manager Laboratory, or the Laboratory Supervisor, or the Director Lab Operations.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
1. Performs venipuncture and capillary punctures to obtain adequate samples. Is responsible for correct patient identification, specimen labeling and documentation. Demonstrates knowledge and ability to evaluate and select proper collection methods for age specific patients.
2. Supports activities related to laboratory testing (phlebotomy, specimen collection, computer order entry and specimen processing) to ensure accurate result reporting and quick turn-around time.
3. Performs processing functions related to testing including verification, accessioning, aliquoting, processing and batching send out testing, adding/cancelling tests, distributing, storing and disposing of specimens.
4. Performs registration duties applicable to the site/location of assignment. Computer based registration and order entry duties require prior training provided by the applicable department.
5. Adheres to Compliance policies as related to job duties to include presenting Advance Beneficiary Notice (ABN) of non-coverage prior to delivery of outpatient services.
6. Performs observational competency of all support staff under the guidance of the phlebotomy leadership using established criteria.
7. Oversees and schedules training of new employees, provides current employees with in-service education on new policy and procedures; may act as a shift leader. Works well without direct supervision.
8. Maintains department equipment and inventory to ensure proper supplies are available.
9. Participates in:
· Q.I./process improvements, data collection, QC documentation, and/or CAP surveys as applicable to the assigned department.
· Patient and Family-Centered Care culture. Staff activities of a High Reliability Organization (HRO).

6 North is a 32-bed surgical floor that offers a great learning environment fostered by our team of exceptional nurses. 6 North offers experiences that are normally not found in Med-Surg clinical rotation. The unit has a focus on surgical conditions including urology procedures, major and minor abdominal surgeries, ENT, bariatric and pulmonary surgeries, peripheral vascular procedures as well as other general surgical post-op needs. The unit has 8 telemetry beds for patients requiring cardiac monitoring. It is a fast-paced environment that you will never find boring.

Our APPs play an integral role in the multidisciplinary care team by coordinating discussion, communication, and implementation of care plans with various consulting physician services, nursing, respiratory therapy, pharmacy, nutritional support, and other ancillary teams. In addition to these skills, you will be expected to have obtained competency in common ICU procedures, including but not limited to endotracheal intubation, arterial blood gas collection, arterial catheter line placement, central venous catheter line placement, temporary dialysis catheter line placement, transvenous pacemaker line placement, and pulmonary artery catheter line placement.
Our cardiothoracic critical care providers are also the rapid response team for the hospital’s cardiac catheterization lab.
Our APPs are expected to manage endotracheal tubes, tracheostomy tubes, ventilators, pacemakers, sedation (MAC and Deep), interpret ABGs and VBGs as well as complex acid/base derangements, manage fluid balance goals with diuretics, hemodialysis, and CRRT, vasopressors and inotropes, XRAYS, and laboratory investigations.
Knowledge of the following advanced mechanical support devices is also expected: IABP, IMPELLA (2.5, CP, 5.0, 5.5, RP), CENTRIMAG, and ECMO (VV, VA).
