We are looking for an enthusiastic and highly driven team member who can help the Council fulfil its statutory role as Lead Local Flood Authority. This is an exciting opportunity to join the Flood Risk Management Team in Calderdale. The team leads the Council's role as Lead Local Flood Authority, working with risk management partners to manage flood risk across the Borough. An opportunity has arisen that would directly support delivery of the Council’s priority of tackling the climate emergency and reducing flood risk. The role will provide effective advice and expertise within the Flood Risk Management team of Strategic Infrastructure to ensure that it makes the maximum contribution to the regeneration and sustainability of the district through effective delivery of the statutory responsibilities of the Lead Local Flood Authority with particular regard to the effective and proactive implementation of flood risk management matters.
The role is key to ensuring that the council adheres to its duties as Lead Local Flood Authority (LLFA), in particular Section 19 and 21 of the Flood & Water Management Act 2010 in delivering its duties under the Land Drainage Act 1991. The role requires providing updates to councillors and members of the public on flooding issues including attending meetings in person with flood victims and ward members.
The role will manage our watercourse maintenance contractors undertaking activities throughout the district such as asset repair, debris/trash screen clearances and land management works. This includes ensuring that our standards are being met in terms of both Health & Safety and quality of work. The role requires extensive knowledge of flood risk/civil engineering assets, contractor management, and the ability to communicate effectively with stakeholders. The role will give you the opportunity to develop your knowledge of flood risk management and to gain a breadth of experience through the delivery of a wide range of flood risk management initiatives.
If you have recent experience in Flood Risk Management and related investigations, we would welcome your application. The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate strong organisational and communication skills and have a strong understanding of the principals of flood risk management and land drainage systems. The successful candidate will have a Level 4 or equivalent qualification or experience. You will be an excellent negotiator and someone who finds solution finding second nature.
