TinySeed was started by Rob Walling and Einar Vollset, two serial entrepreneurs who saw a gap in the ability for non-unicorn startups to raise early-stage funding.
So we decided to fix that.
We announced in late 2018, and the response was beyond anything we imagined.
Hundreds and hundreds of tweets, re-tweets, likes, Hacker News upvotes, email responses... it was immediately obvious that there is pent up demand for this kind of alternative early-stage startup funding.
That’s the moment we knew we were onto something.
TinySeed is an accelerator, but it’s remote, runs for a full year, focuses on SaaS, and “non-unicorns” (companies that don’t aspire to grow at all costs to reach a $1B valuation).
To venture capitalists, a company doing $10m in annual revenue is a miss. To us, it’s a great business.

Pros: The network of founders is invaluable. You're not alone in the journey. The mentors are experienced and genuinely care about your success. The funding provided allowed us to focus on building and marketing without the immediate pressure of revenue. It's a highly supportive environment for early-stage SaaS companies.
Cons: Being remote-first means you have to be proactive in engaging with the community and mentors. Sometimes, with so many resources and advice, it can feel a bit overwhelming to prioritize what's most important for your specific business. More structured, personalized advice on scaling challenges would be beneficial.
Advice to Management: Continue to foster the strong founder community. Perhaps offer more specialized workshops or Q&A sessions tailored to common scaling challenges faced by SaaS businesses. Ensure consistent follow-up on individual founder progress to offer timely, targeted support.
