Temporary Accommodation Assistant

PURPOSE:

The post holder will provide effective, efficient and customer focussed support services to the Temporary Accommodation Team as required to support the delivery of a high-quality front-line service.

This will include providing administrative and practical support as required to enable the team to deliver the service such as ordering goods and services, arranging for the payment of invoices and liaising with managers where dispensations are required, supporting the team with setting up temporary accommodation, arranging the clearing & cleaning of vacated temporary accommodation, dealing with enquiries coming into the team and supporting colleagues with visits as necessary. It will include interaction with internal and external customers, stakeholders, partners and elected members and any other general administrative task as the wider Housing Access Service requires, which may include assisting the Head of Service (Access & Well Being) and other managers and team leaders in the service.

The Housing Access Service is a multi-disciplinary service which is the front door service to access housing in the city. It provides a comprehensive housing advice and options service designed to prevent homelessness and rough sleeping, help customers find realistic and sustainable housing solutions which meet their needs from a range of options and allocate available council homes in a timely way.

PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES:

1. Provides a professional, empathetic and high-quality service in response to customers approaching the service for advice and assistance which may be in person, over the phone, in writing or via IT systems.
2. Provides a responsive and flexible service to colleagues and customers in respect of the provision of emergency TA, often with little or no notice. This may include, but is not limited to, arranging furniture packs, supporting with the set-up of utilities, arranging safety checks and décor as appropriate and within agreed protocols, liaising with the council’s or external contractors as and when appropriate. This will involve travelling between many different locations.
3. Prioritises their own caseload and also collaborates with their team to identify pressure points and agree and contribute to team priorities, to meet the demands of the service and ensure targets are met.

7. Performs their duties from various locations as required including other council buildings, empty properties, customer’s homes or community settings.
8. Supports colleagues within the wider Housing Access Service as is appropriate according to service pressures and priorities.

Purpose

The post holder will work directly with people with emerging social care needs to support early intervention. This will include helping people to develop wellbeing plans, access community initiatives and develop strategies to manage their emerging needs.
You will assist long-term care users to increase social inclusion, access community-led initiatives and maximise their independence.

Generic Accountabilities
Under supervision from a Senior Practitioner or a Team Manager to manage a caseload including direct work with service users and carers.
Support the implementation of interventions and actions for allocated cases.
Under supervision from a Senior Practitioner or a Team Manager provide professional advice and guidance to colleagues and partner agencies supporting the relevant client group.
Liaise internally and externally and work with colleagues from other agencies to ensure service users and or carers interests are supported.
Maintain properly documented case files, records and service user information.
Prepare standard reports as required.

Support others in their development.
Carry out all duties with an awareness and understanding of the Safeguarding requirements within area of responsibility.
Proactively develop professional knowledge, skills and behaviours.


Act in accordance with all policies and procedures which apply to the job and understand the reasons for this.
To ensure a high quality of service is provided through effective performance management, identification of training needs and dissemination of best practice.

Knowledge, Skills and Experience
• Substantial relevant experience of working in social care , with evidence of work responsibilities appropriate to the role.
• Awareness of the Care Act 2014 and otter relevant social care legislation
• Experience of multi-disciplinary and partnership working and awareness of the issues involved.
• Ability to support and assist therapists and social workers in duties.
• Proven ability to work with challenging client groups and situations.
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (verbal and written).
• Literate and numerate with accurate record keeping and report writing.
• Awareness of financial assessment processes.
• ICT skills including use of Microsoft applications
• Commitment to enabling Service Users to maximise their own skills and abilities and to allow them to take calculated and informed risks where this enhances the quality of their life.

Indicative Qualifications
Education to GCSE level, including English to Grade C or equivalent
To be proficient in the use of Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook programs
To have completed at least 6 months practical experience in a Therapy or social care environment
