Context 

The physical system installation design of commercial aircraft needs to consider a variety of intrinsic or external threat scenarios such as wheel and tire failure, bird strike, uncontained engine rotor failure (...). For selected aircraft functions it is required to demonstrate their availability following such an event in order to ensure continued safe flight and landing. 

Problem statement

In order to optimize the physical system installation of an aircraft, it is necessary to understand the potential failure modes induced by the above mentioned threats towards those physical system components that contribute to aircraft safety. A level of complexity arises by the required multi physical interdependencies (e.g. transient shockwave loads acting on- installed electrical harnesses or pipes) that shall be analyzed by numerical simulations in time and space domain.

Your tasks and responsibilities

You will support the global understanding of physical impacts originating from selected particular risk events by:

• Research of scientific publications related to physical damage simulation of installed aircraft systems  following selected particular risk events.

• Identification of all input parameters to enable numerical multiphysics simulations

• Consolidation of input parameters or their substitutive assumptions for.

• Execution of selected multiphysics simulation use cases.

Thanks to this approach you will contribute to design optimization of system installation under consideration of cascaded aircraft safety objectives.

 Desired skills and qualifications

• Enrolled full-time student (d/f/m) in the area of Multiphysics numerical simulation or an equivalent field of study.

• You are motivated to work in aeronautics and multi physical numerical simulations.

• You have an educational Engineering background [TU- preferably] in mechanical engineering.

• After the successful completion of your bachelor’s degree you are now entering into the final phase of your master studies. For your master thesis you are looking for an opportunity to work in the inspiring environment of aeronautical industries.

Your Accountabilities

As part of Airbus and to accelerate the development of a ZEROe aviation, you will drive the testing based verification of fuel cell systems and balance of plant components. This ranges from defining the test needs, specifying the appropriate system or component tests, supporting the test execution team and/or external partners as well as analyzing the test results and drawing the proper conclusions.

Your Main Responsibilities

As such

• You will contribute with your fuel cell system knowhow to design, size and optimize fuel cell systems and related components with a focus on system verification.

• You will contribute to the verification approach and refine and extend the system test strategy 

• You will define the specific test cases and support the respective test execution with your system knowhow.

• You will verify the system and component function and performance with test result data analysis and evaluation and identify ways forward in case on non-compliances including the respective documentation activities.

• You will act as an interface between the system testing and the test data based model and simulation activities. 

• You will lead activities with internal and external partners including international collaboration with suppliers and with the academic world.

We have a lot of qualitative data and we have teamed up with Athena Research Center, one of the most prominent AI Research Centers in Europe, to guide us through the latest 3D ML algorithms.

Are you interested?

Over the years we have gathered thousands of CAD 3D data. Recent advances in machine learning enable us today to explore internal patterns, therefore making reuse of existing parts and the development of new parts easier.

Two main challenges come along with this growth in the Design Office. The Retrieval of similar parts and, in times of Generative AI, the Creation of new parts through interpolation in the latent space of existing ones. In this context, we want to test different networks and architectures, e.g. explicit (point clouds) and implicit representations (NeRFs) as well as transformers, found in open source AI models. The latter usually make use of open source datasets, e.g. ShapeNet; we want to test them on our own 3D parts.

Tasks

• How long does it take to train different models with our own data/3D parts?

• Which hardware/ amount of GPUs do we need?

Retrieval:

• How “good” is a Retrieval out of ~200,000 CAD parts?

• Which parameters can we tweak to get preciser results?

Generation:

• What kind of control can we expect when generating new parts?

• Which is the most appropriate representation for capturing details of connatural parts?

Our main responsibility is to ensure continuous improvement of the cabin customization process. This starts from the customer definition of an airplane until the aircraft is in service.

 

What will be your new challenge?

 

You will:

Secure the on-time & on-quality 3D-Design by: 

• Organizing and performing Digital Mock-Up design reviews,

• Planning and conducting integration checks,

• Leading the technical arbitration between different design partners and pushing resolution of design conflicts, 

• Performing special investigations on early Customer (internal/external) request,  

• Generating periodic KPI analysis and proposing recovery plans.

Standardize and optimization the status quo by: 

• Analyzing recurrent design conflicts, assessing and driving respective improvement initiatives,

• Driving streamlined working methods in the 3D C&C integration context,

• Defining and maintaining the content of standardized new development platforms as a target reference.

Expedite the Digitalization of DMU tools and processes by:  

• Using data analytics and machine learning to increase efficiency in the end-to-end customization process,

• Defining and develop applications in order to automate activities securing further improvements and robustness of customization design.

Deine Aufgaben und Verantwortlichkeiten

• Du wirkst bei der Überarbeitung und Verbesserung unserer Knowledge Base mit und passt die bestehenden Strukturen gemäß den Verbesserungen an.

• Du unterstützt unser Team bei der Dokumentation der Stammdaten Verwendung und bei der Erstellung sowie der Ergänzung bestehender Dokumentation zu den Stammdaten

• Du kannst eigene Ideen zur Strukturierung des Wissens über die Stammdaten entwickeln und ggf. implementieren

Erforderliche Kenntnisse und Qualifikationen

• Eingeschriebener Vollzeitstudent im Bereich Informatik, Wirtschaftsinformatik, Wirtschaftsingenieur oder einer vergleichbaren Studienrichtung

• Erfahrungen in JIRA oder Confluence wünschenswert

• Fließend in Deutsch und Englisch

• Faible für Strukturierung und Front-End Redesign

• Gute Analysefähigkeiten

• Kreativität

Ready to shape the future? Starte Dein Duales Studium B.Sc. und M.Sc. Elektrotechnik (d/m/w)

Im Studiengang Elektrotechnik (w/m/d) beschäftigst Du Dich u.a. mit neuen Technologien der Informatik, der Forschung zur Produktentwicklung in der Flugzeugkabine. Mit dem Abschluss Deines Studiums wirst Du Dich mit den Anforderungen der Kabinenelektronik befassen, die Dich dazu in die Lage versetzen, neue innovative Produkte sowie neuartige Dienstleistungen für Airbus zu entwickeln. Zu Deinen Aufgaben gehören nicht nur die Beschäftigung mit technischen Systemen und Modellen, sondern auch die Erstellung damit verbundener IT-Lösungen (Software & Hardware) und die Mitarbeit in vielfältigen Projekten.

• Ein 3-jähriges Bachelorstudium sowie ein 2-jähriges Masterstudium an der Technischen Universität Hamburg (TUHH),
• Kernfächer Deines Studiums: Hochfrequenztechnik,Vermittlungstechnik, Hochgeschwindigkeitsnetze, Rechnerkommunikation sowie Codierung und Radartechnik
• Den Schwerpunkt Deines Studiums bilden in der Fachrichtung Nachrichten- und Kommunikationstechnik: Signalverarbeitung, analoge und digitale Übertragungstechnik, Kommunikationstechnik, Mikrocomputertechnik und Entwurf digitaler Schaltungen

Nach erfolgreichem Abschluss ist eine Übernahme bei Airbus Operations möglich.
