Software Engineer

Solid place, but leadership could improve.
Pros: The pay and benefits are really strong, which is common for a proprietary trading firm. You're constantly challenged, and as a Software Engineer here, you learn a ton about building high-performance systems for algorithmic trading. The people are super sharp, which pushes you.
Cons: Leadership often feels pretty top-down and a bit out of touch with what the engineering teams are actually dealing with daily. Communication on strategic decisions isn't always the clearest, which can make it tough to see where your project fits in the bigger picture. It's a demanding culture.
Advice to Management: Try to get more direct input from individual contributors, especially engineers, when making big technical or strategic calls. Better transparency around decision-making would go a long way.

It's a Grind, But You Learn So Much
Pros: You learn a ton, super fast, especially in high-frequency trading. The pay and benefits are really solid for a prop trading firm. Plus, the people are incredibly smart here in the Chicago office, which pushes you.
Cons: The company culture is pretty cutthroat sometimes. There's a lot of pressure, and work-life balance isn't always a priority for Quantitative Analyst roles. It can feel like you're always on, which gets old.
Advice to Management: Try to foster more collaboration and less internal competition. A better work-life balance would really help with retention in market-making roles.

Solid place, but markets are tough.
Pros: It's a pretty established firm in the financial industry, so it feels more stable than a tiny startup. As a Software Engineer, I worked on interesting projects with a lot of smart people in the Chicago office. The pay and benefits are definitely solid here.
Cons: Job security for technical roles can feel a bit volatile if market conditions change quickly in quantitative trading. Projects can shift, and sometimes it's not clear what happens next if your team's focus changes. There's not always a super clear path for internal moves.
Advice to Management: Give employees, especially Software Engineers, more visibility into potential project changes and clearer internal mobility options. This would help with perceived job security when the market gets bumpy.
