Demanding strategy consulting, tough work-life balance
Pros: I've learned a ton as a Senior Consultant here. The project teams are usually really smart, and you get exposed to diverse strategy consulting projects. The pay and benefits are also pretty solid for a global firm.
Cons: Work-life balance is definitely a struggle, especially with client demands. It's common to work long hours, sometimes past midnight, which makes it hard to have a life outside of work. The hybrid model means you're often in the Boston office late, too.
Advice to Management: Try to enforce better boundaries with clients and project timelines. We need more focus on employee well-being, not just billable hours. Maybe more flexibility for non-client travel weeks.

Decent Stability for a Consulting Role
Pros: The firm's reputation as a big corporate firm definitely helps. Even in tough times, there's usually consistent client work, which is good for job security in the management consulting industry. It feels more stable than pure startups.
Cons: Performance reviews can still feel a bit opaque, which makes you wonder about job security sometimes. The strategy consulting industry itself always has some inherent risk during economic downturns, you can't totally escape that even here.
Advice to Management: Focus on clearer career paths and provide more consistent, transparent feedback. This would really help ease anxiety about performance-related job security, especially for new Strategy Consultant roles.

Job Security is Okay, But Project-Dependent
Pros: You're usually busy with client projects, so you don't feel like layoffs are around the corner. The big corporate structure of EY overall helps with that sense of stability too, even in our New York office.
Cons: Bench time can be stressful; it makes you worry about your utilization. If projects dry up in a specific sector, that definitely affects job security for those teams. There's pressure to constantly prove your value.
Advice to Management: Try to communicate more transparently about the pipeline and staffing to ease job security worries during slower periods. Better support for those on the bench would help.

Solid Pay, Decent Benefits for the Hours
Pros: The base salary for a Senior Consultant in strategy consulting is pretty competitive in the New York City office. Bonuses are usually good and the health benefits package is comprehensive, which is a big plus.
Cons: Even with the good pay, the demanding hours often make the effective hourly rate feel lower than it should. Retirement matching isn't as generous as I've seen at other big corporate firms, which is a bit of a letdown.
Advice to Management: Consider how the overall compensation package balances against the intense workload. Improving the retirement contributions could really help with retaining top talent in our management consulting practice.

Solid Path for Strategy Consulting Careers
Pros: If you're looking for a clear path in strategy consulting, this is it. As a Senior Consultant, I've seen a lot of folks move up quickly, especially in the M&A advisory practice. There's good mentorship in the Boston office if you seek it out.
Cons: The pace can be brutal, which sometimes makes it tough to fully invest in development outside of client work. Career growth is there, but it's a grind and not always about skill diversification. It's more about how many hours you put in.
Advice to Management: Try to balance the intense client demands with dedicated time for skill development that isn't directly tied to current projects. Encourage broader learning for consultants.

Leadership can be inconsistent, but some are great
Pros: Some partners and project leads are truly invested in your growth as a Consultant. They offer solid mentorship programs, which is super helpful for learning the ropes in management consulting. You can really gain a lot from good leadership here.
Cons: Leadership consistency is a real problem in the Boston office, especially for some teams. There's not always clear guidance from senior management, particularly on challenging M&A strategy projects. It often feels like you're figuring things out alone.
Advice to Management: Invest more in leadership training for all levels, especially for new project leads. Ensure there's consistent mentorship and support across all strategy consulting engagements to help junior staff and reduce turnover.

Strategy Consulting is Demanding but Rewarding
Pros: I learned so much in strategy consulting, especially on complex client projects. The pay for a consultant at a big corporate firm like this is really solid, and you get exposed to lots of different industries. The team in the NYC office was generally bright and supportive.
Cons: Work-life balance here is tough, plain and simple. Expect to work really long hours, often 60-70+ hours a week, and weekend work isn't uncommon, especially close to deadlines. It's hard to plan anything personal when you're always on the clock for advisory services.
Advice to Management: Try to enforce stricter boundaries on work hours and encourage teams to take more downtime. More remote flexibility could also help retention.

Solid Pay, Benefits are Just Okay
Pros: As a Senior Consultant in management consulting, the base salary is competitive for the industry. You also get a decent bonus if your M&A strategy projects go well. The 401k match is pretty solid, which helps with long-term planning.
Cons: Health insurance costs feel a bit high, especially for those in the Boston office. There's not much in terms of unique perks or robust wellness benefits compared to other big corporate firms. PTO is okay, but actually taking it can be tough with client demands.
Advice to Management: Re-evaluate the health benefits and consider adding more modern perks to compete for top talent, especially in high-cost-of-living areas like Boston. It'd boost morale a lot.

Leadership Quality Varies Greatly at EY-Parthenon
Pros: You get decent exposure to high-level strategic advisory work. Some partners are truly brilliant and teach you a ton as a Senior Consultant. It's great for networking if you pick the right projects.
Cons: The leadership quality isn't consistent across the firm. Junior staff sometimes feel like just a number, especially during intense private equity due diligence engagements. Some managers struggle with clear communication and setting expectations.
Advice to Management: Invest more in leadership training for partners and principals. Standardize expectations for managing junior talent on strategic advisory engagements. It would help retain people and improve team morale.

Hybrid Model Is Okay for Consulting Roles
Pros: I appreciate the official hybrid work policy, letting us WFH a few days a week. For management consulting roles, it's good to have some control over my schedule, especially when client travel isn't required. It's better than being fully onsite at a client's location.
Cons: Still, true work-life balance in this industry is really tough. Flexibility often goes out the window when a major client deliverable is due, meaning long hours regardless of where you're working. There's pressure to be available and responsive even on your designated WFH days.
Advice to Management: Encourage teams to truly respect the hybrid policy and boundaries, even during busy periods. Set clearer expectations around off-hours availability for all consulting roles, not just junior staff.
