Culture is just okay, but good team
Pros: Working as a Software Engineer, my direct team was pretty great. Everyone was super supportive, especially when we tackled complex software development projects. The work flexibility for remote employees was also a huge plus.
Cons: The company culture overall felt a bit disconnected, especially for those of us remote from Austin, TX. There's not much effort to build a unified vibe. Also, leadership changes felt frequent, which made consistent direction tough.
Advice to Management: Focus on building a stronger, more inclusive company culture that reaches all employees, especially remote staff. More stability in leadership would also really help with long-term strategy.

Okay Federal Contracting, Growth Stalls for Consultants
Pros: You get solid experience on government projects. The work is steady, which is good for job security. The D.C. office culture is mostly chill, and benefits are decent for a mid-sized firm.
Cons: Career growth for IT Consultant roles definitely stalls. There aren't many clear paths to advance without constantly chasing new clients. I felt pigeonholed into specific tech stacks, which wasn't great for my development.
Advice to Management: Create clearer growth tracks for consultants. Invest in more diverse training. Give people chances to try new things and move up internally.

Leadership at ABSI is a mixed bag
Pros: Some of the project leads here are really solid. They back you up on client projects, which is huge for a technical consultant. I felt supported in the Brussels office for day-to-day tasks.
Cons: Upper management often seems disconnected from the ground work in the IT consulting industry. It's tough to get clear strategic direction, especially for long-term career paths. Decisions sometimes feel arbitrary for a mid-sized firm.
Advice to Management: Work on more transparent communication and involve team leads in strategic planning. We need clearer long-term vision and better support for career development across all roles.

Decent Pay, Benefits Could Use a Boost
Pros: The base pay for a Software Engineer is okay in this market, especially for remote work. They do offer standard medical and dental benefits, which is a plus for technical consultant roles.
Cons: Health insurance premiums are pretty high, it eats into your take-home. The 401k match isn't great, and there aren't many bonus opportunities for software development projects.
Advice to Management: Try to improve the overall benefits package, especially the 401k match and health insurance costs. It would really help with retention for folks in software development.

Leadership is a real challenge here
Pros: I liked working with my immediate team members; they're really talented. We had decent tools for our remote work environment, which helped a lot as a Software Engineer.
Cons: Upper leadership often feels out of touch with daily operations. There's a lack of clear direction and vision, making it hard to prioritize tasks effectively.
Advice to Management: Management needs to get closer to the ground level teams. More transparency and consistent communication from the top would help a lot with morale and project direction.

Okay Flexibility, Could Be Better for Engineers
Pros: They do offer a hybrid work model, which is nice for some days remote. As a Software Engineer, I appreciated being able to avoid the rush hour commute to the Boston office a couple of times a week. It's not fully remote, but it's something in the software development space.
Cons: Beyond two days a week, remote options are really limited. There's not much room for true work-from-home flexibility if something comes up unexpectedly. It feels like a very traditional corporate setup, not a modern tech industry company.
Advice to Management: Consider offering more flexible work arrangements, especially for experienced engineering roles. The tech industry standard is moving towards more remote-friendly policies, and ABSI should adapt to retain talent.

ABSI work-life is decent, but client-dependent.
Pros: For ABSI, the work-life balance can be pretty good, especially if your client project allows for some flexibility. As a Business Analyst, I often worked a standard 40-hour week. You get to WFH some days too, which is a nice perk for those not always in the Brussels office.
Cons: It really depends on the client and the specific IT consulting engagement. Some projects demand a lot more, and you'll easily find yourself working longer hours. There's pressure to deliver, and sometimes that means your evenings are gone.
Advice to Management: Try to better manage client expectations and project scopes. This would help reduce the unpredictable long hours for consultants on demanding IT consulting engagements.

Job security is a bit shaky for consultants
Pros: As an IT Consultant, I got to work on diverse projects in the tech solutions space. It's great for building a portfolio, especially if you're good at networking within the Atlanta, GA office.
Cons: But honestly, job security is a big worry here. When a client project ends, there's no guarantee for the next IT consulting gig, and bench time can be stressful.
Advice to Management: Try to have a better pipeline for consultants between projects. More internal training or development during bench time could really help.

ABSI: Decent Culture, Needs Faster Pace
Pros: The best part is definitely the people here. Everyone's really friendly and supportive, which makes the hybrid model work well when you're in the office. As a Software Developer, I've had good opportunities to dive deep into the Salesforce ecosystem and learn a lot from my teammates.
Cons: It's tough when decisions take forever, especially for a mid-sized firm. Sometimes it feels like there's too much red tape for quick changes in our tech consulting projects. The company culture is good, but the slowness can be frustrating.
Advice to Management: Please try to speed up decision-making processes. It would also help to clearly outline career progression paths for technical roles within the tech consulting practice.
