Solid culture, but fast-paced for real estate tech
Pros: The overall vibe at Side is pretty collaborative. Everyone's really focused on supporting real estate agents, which is cool for a tech company. Team members are super helpful, especially when you're remote from different time zones.
Cons: Things move really fast here, like most startups. As an Account Manager, it felt like goalposts shifted sometimes. There's also been a fair bit of leadership turnover, which was a little jarring for the company culture.
Advice to Management: Focus on stabilizing leadership and creating more transparent career progression paths for individual contributors. Clearer communication on strategic shifts would also really help.

Leadership needs to listen more at this startup
Pros: I liked the remote work flexibility; that was a big plus for my work-life balance. We had good benefits too, which is solid for a startup in the real estate tech industry. It's a pretty fast-paced environment.
Cons: Leadership often changes direction without much warning, making it tough as an Account Manager to hit goals. There's not enough clear communication from the top, especially during changes in strategy. It feels like they don't always value frontline input.
Advice to Management: Try to involve individual contributors more in strategic decisions. Clearer communication about company direction and goals would really help everyone, especially for remote roles across different time zones. Listen to your teams.

Okay Culture, Tough on Work-Life Balance
Pros: I really liked the hybrid model, that's a solid perk for sure. You get some flexibility with your WFH days which helps balance things out. Also, the team is pretty collaborative, which makes the tough days a bit easier.
Cons: As an Associate Product Manager here, the workload feels endless sometimes. Deadlines in this fast-paced real estate tech environment often mean late nights. It's tough to truly log off from the San Francisco office when projects ramp up.
Advice to Management: Try to set clearer boundaries around work hours. Empower managers to push back on unrealistic deadlines. This would significantly improve overall employee well-being.

Pay is okay, benefits could be better
Pros: The base pay for an Account Manager was solid, especially being remote from Texas. You get a commission structure that's pretty clear, which is good if you're hitting your numbers in real estate tech sales. They do offer standard health insurance, which is decent.
Cons: The overall benefits package isn't competitive, especially for a well-funded startup. PTO was just okay, nothing special, and there aren't many unique perks. I felt like the 401k match was pretty weak, which is a real drawback when you're thinking long-term.
Advice to Management: Management should seriously review the benefits package. Better 401k matching and more generous PTO would really help with retention in this competitive real estate tech market. It's tough to attract top talent without it.

Good vision, but leadership execution needs work.
Pros: You get to work with really smart people here, especially on the product side. The overall vision for empowering real estate agents with a better platform is solid. Remote work flexibility is also a big plus for WFH folks.
Cons: Leadership changes direction too often. It's tough to build consistent strategies for agent platform development when priorities shift weekly. Communication from top leadership feels a bit disconnected sometimes for remote employees.
Advice to Management: Try to stick to a clear roadmap for more than a few months. Consistent messaging and clear goals would help everyone, especially the teams working directly with real estate brokerages and agent-facing roles.

Remote Work is Solid, Benefits Need Work
Pros: As a Software Engineer, the base pay was decent for a real estate tech startup. I really appreciated the flexibility of being remote from Texas, which saved me a lot on daily expenses.
Cons: However, the health insurance options weren't very comprehensive, and the 401k match felt pretty standard, not competitive. Don't expect much in terms of performance bonuses or significant equity, especially for mid-level roles.
Advice to Management: Focus on improving the overall benefits package, especially health insurance, to attract and retain top tech talent. A more generous 401k match would also be a big plus.

Remote Work is Solid for Side Software Engineers
Pros: Being a Software Engineer here, I really appreciate the work flexibility. I'm remote from Austin, TX, and they don't care if I start early or late, as long as the work gets done. It's great for managing personal appointments without issues.
Cons: While the overall flexibility is good for this real estate tech startup, sometimes project deadlines can get pretty tight. This means you might end up putting in longer hours unexpectedly, even with the WFH setup. It can be a challenge to always maintain that perfect work-life balance during crunch times.
Advice to Management: Try to better manage project scope and deadlines to prevent team burnout, even with the existing work flexibility.

Good start for PMs, but career growth stalls
Pros: As a Product Manager, I got a lot of exposure to the real estate tech industry. It's a solid place to learn the ropes of building products, especially with the hybrid work model from the San Francisco office. You'll definitely gain hands-on experience in a startup environment.
Cons: The career growth for Product Manager roles just isn't there after a certain point. It's tough to move up, and there aren't many clear paths or mentorship programs. Promotions seem really infrequent, even if you're performing well in this real estate tech company.
Advice to Management: You really need to create clearer career ladders for individual contributors, especially for Product Manager roles. Invest in mentorship and define what it takes to get to the next level. It'll help retain talent.
