The Director, Sales Tax Recovery (“Director”) works either independently or with other Managers/Directors to identify sales and fuels tax savings opportunities for clients and is considered a subject matter expert in sales and fuels tax. The Director conducts recovery engagements onsite at client’s facilities to gain an understanding of how the client computes each component of sales tax. Client:

• Assists clients with sales tax issues as required.
• Identifies and advises clients of areas of sales tax exposure.

Value:

• Reviews client’s sales tax payments, input tax credits and sales tax accounts to identify sales tax recovery opportunities.
• Reviews client’s accounting records to identify areas of federal and provincial fuels tax recoveries.
• Prepares refund claims, including supporting schedules providing full details of refunds.
• Prepares comprehensive client reports summarizing the engagement results, including the preparation of process improvement reports.
• Attends technical training sessions and continually updates knowledge in all areas of GST/HST/PST/QST and Ryan proprietary application software: Ryan eReview®.

Education and Experience:

• Bachelor’s degree or College Diploma in Accounting and/or Finance.
• Professional accounting designation (CPA, CA, CMA, CGA) and six to eight years accounting or tax-related experience in industry and/or public accounting environment.
• Senior level financial experience with emphasis on operational accounting experience and good exposure to current ERP software applications in accounting and financial management.
• Basic working knowledge of GST and PST administration is required.  However, a strong knowledge of Goods and Services Tax (GST) and Provincial Sales Tax (PST) legislation and policies, working as a professional in the commodity tax field is a definite asset.
• Superior organizational skills and ability to meet project deadlines.
• High level of self-motivation and ethical conduct.

Computer Skills:

Operational management of the Finance input into the Trust’s Service Level Agreement process, and the Trusts Acute Income Contracts (In excess of £850M)

This includes including the formulation, analysis, negotiation, monitoring and management of the income streams within each contract.

Support the Overseas and Private Patient Manager and other operational managers to ensure that overseas and private patients are invoiced correctly, and financial support is given to pathways.

Assist the Head of Income, Overseas & NHSE Contracting to ensure the Trust Board, Clinical Leadership Executive and appropriate managers and staff are kept up to date on any developments in financial and business planning, costing and pricing of services, payment regimes and service level agreements for the provision of patient related services.

Interpret, evaluate, and apply national and local policies on the costing and pricing of services, including the development of the National Tariff Payment System.

Assist with the pricing and costing of activity and services as required by the Trust and/or external bodies to facilitate the provision of services.

Negotiation with Service Commissioners and Purchasers
1. Assist the Head of Income and Contracts with the delivery and review of finance and activity components of commissioning contracts
2. Regularly liaise with external organisations with regard to commissioning contracts, including negotiations and in-year monitoring meetings, ensuring that all negotiations are accurately reflected in the agreements
3. Ensure that there’s a clear record of agreement and that these are consistent with the information held within the commercial informatics database. Ensuring that the effects of any in year contract variations are clearly audited and captured
4. Ensure that the performance reports are sent to all commissioners in accordance with the terms of contractual agreement and that monitoring is provided to Clinical groups and Corporate Directorates within the Trust on a regular basis
5. To lead that monthly reconciliation process with commissioner provided data on a monthly basis in accordance to contractual timescales
6. Liaise with commissioning staff to resolve queries arising from contract negotiations and contract monitoring
7. Link with the Accounts Receivable section to ensure that invoices are sent to Commissioners in a timely and accurate manner.

The Private Client Services Team is jointly led by two Partners, both listed as Leading Individuals in Chambers & Partners, a Recommended Lawyer and are also recognised as Leading Individuals in the Legal 500 (2023 edition). The team is 50 strong and spread across our offices. For 15 consecutive years the firm's Trusts, Estate and Tax lawyers have secured a Tier 1 ranking in the UK's leading legal directory, Chambers and Partners High Net Worth Guide.

The team cover a range of matters for high and ultra-high net worth clients. They have specialists in all areas of trusts, estates and tax with members of the team advising clients with international, agricultural, literary, business and other assets. Directors and Partners all specialise in particular areas, including acting as independent administrators in high net worth contested estates, advising on complex mental capacity issues, administering cross-border estates and advising agricultural clients.

As part of the role, you will work closely with the Trusts, Estate and Tax team together with the other Private Client Services Partners and more generally across the firm. You will work as part of a driven and commercially successful team and be able to mentor and oversee the work of junior lawyers and help them to progress in their careers, whilst at the same time developing new business. This role will give you the opportunity to develop and really make your mark on a team.

To be successful in your application, you will:

• Be a qualified lawyer with at least 8 years' experience in private client matters (however, less experienced candidates are also invited to apply)
• Have managerial experience and be keen to take on a managerial role.
• Be a strong leader with an interest in business development.
• Be commercially minded with clear goals.
• Ideally have a strong referral network or a following.
