The West Midlands Postgraduate School of Medicine is inviting applications for a Training Programme Director.

The successful applicant for this post will support the Postgraduate Dean, Head of School of Medicine and the Faculty Support Team to produce doctors who will strive for the highest standards of patient-centred care and commit themselves to a lifetime of professional development.



The Training Programme Director will support in the co-ordination, delivery and direction of the specialty training programme as well as contribute to the overall PG School of Medicine Training Programme in Health Education England across the West Midlands.

The role of Training Programme Director is to work with and support the Head of School in leading the delivery of a wide range of functions, aligned to the Health Education England mandate.  

Please note: The post is offered on a contract for services basis and all candidates are reminded that if they are successful, they are responsible for securing written agreement from their Trust for release from clinical work for the specified number of PAs.

The successful applicant will work to ensure that the training programme meets the Local HEE area standard for training and that each trainee is able to access a comprehensive range of experiences which will enable them to gain the capabilities necessary for full registration and completion of the specialty curriculum.

The Training Programme Director is professionally and managerially accountable to the Clinical Tutor. The Training Programme Director will focus upon improvement of learner supervision, assessment and experience, engagement of faculty and ensuring effective educational outcomes, both now and in the future.

The post would be an ideal opportunity for an experienced educational supervisor aiming to further develop their educational portfolio.

This post would require someone who is able to emphasise the importance and promote the development of a quality learning environment for all learners, demonstrable leadership skills and an ability to influence and motivate others.

The successful applicant must have experience of clinical and educational leadership and innovation, including managing a multi-professional team.

HEE working across the West Midlands is responsible for the delivery of high quality postgraduate medical and dental education and training across the region and HEE is committed to the development of a medical and dental workforce that will support high quality patient care.

The post attracts 1 PAwhich will be reimbursed to the successful candidate’s employing Trust at £10,000 per session PA per annum (pro rata)

It is expected that Training Programme Directors continue in clinical practice while fulfilling the role. The posts will be offered for 3 years in the first instance with satisfactory annual appraisal, with the option of extending for a further 3 years if mutually agreed.

• Conducts operations research and analysis concerning critical human capital issues and management problems utilizing mathematical techniques, statistical methods, and scientific discipline. Provides a quantitative basis for decision making to improve human resources policies and operations using conventional and unconventional techniques to resolve unique or systemic problems that have major impact upon the IRS

• Exercises full responsibility for developing methods to identify emerging human capital and management problems and policy issues using mathematical techniques and analytical models designed to gain increased knowledge in specific areas and predict effects of alternative actions. Provides leadership and guidance for management in determining the nature and quality of workforce data to be collected and analyzed, establishing the methodology of study and evaluating alternative choices. Develops formulas using discriminate and other statistical analysis applied to human capital, workforce, and management issues, which influence the direction and scope of studies conducted on a divisional or Servicewide level.

• Develops and applies research techniques for problem solving using data obtained from a variety of sources both within and outside of the organization. Formulates theories in mathematical terms so they can be tested statistically to predict the probable impact on IRS's human capital policy options.

• Consults with senior level managers, executives, human resources consultants, and a variety of other professionals to provide advice and direction on comprehensive human capital and management studies. Such guidance requires the expert interpretation and translation of broad and specific technical problems and conditions.
