KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

• Gathering client’s project technical requirements and preparing invention documentation.
• Preparing and filing patent or trademark applications up to grant.
• Conducting prior art searches, reviewing specifications, search and examination reports.
• Docketing, monitoring deadlines and managing reminders to ensure timely follow-up actions.
• Handling clients’ email enquiries and following-up with Official Authorities on application status.
• Advising on strategies and courses of actions available to clients
• Any other matters/projects that the management may require assistance with from time to time

Requirements:

• Degree in Engineering.
• Proficiency in English and Chinese written and verbal communication.
• Resourceful and willing to learn with positive can-do attitude.
• Experience or knowledge in patent is a plus but not a prerequisite as training will be provided.
• Mature individuals willing to learn and reskill for career conversion are welcome.

Requirement

• Engineering or Science Degree(s) preferably in the following fields: Mechanical Engineering / Electrical Engineering / Computer Science / Materials Science;
• With stronge interests and commitments in developing a career in the patent attorney profession;
• Able and willing to work independently and proactively and under pressure;
• Excellent communication skills both oral and written;
• Preferably fluent in both English and Chinese at a professional level, e.g., able to read and write technical documents in both languages;
• Working experience in relevant fields an addded advantage, e.g., in the IP service sector, R&D, Technical support, and/or manufacturing.

Patent Engineer / IP Contracts Manager (m/w/d)

In order to manage current and future projects, Airbus Helicopters is looking for you to join the Research & Innovation team in Donauwörth as soon as possible as our new Patent Engineer / IP Contracts Manager (m/w/d).

Inside the department, the Intellectual Property (IP) Service is responsible for securing AH technical innovation and freedom to operate for our R&D and R&T projects, external collaborations and commercial agreements.

You will integrate a transnational team (France & Germany) covering three pillars: Patent Filing & Administration, IP Intelligence and Contracts & Agreements.

Your location

At our Donauwörth site, located on the banks of the river Danube, we develop helicopters from the initial idea to the airworthy product. Watch them take off and touch down on our own on-site test airfield.

Your tasks and responsibilities

1. PATENTS FILING & ADMINISTRATION:

• supporting the inventor to analyse the invention and propose the best means of protection
• ensuring the interface between the inventor and the patent attorney/authorities during the patent filing process
• managing the patent portfolio during the patent lifetime: deciding on foreign extensions, renewal, withdrawal
• contributing to IP training sessions organized for AH staff in the frame of the continuous awareness

2. PATENT MONITORING & IP INTELLIGENCE:

• coordinating the IP Focal point community: engineers and experts from other departments contributing to AH global intelligence
• monitoring competitors and partners new patents that are potentially relevant regarding AH activities
• performing Freedom to Operate analysis (FTO) and identifying potential interferences with AH patents/products/projects
• making recommendations to preserve the interests of the company with adequate actions (patent application, opposition or claim)

3. CONTRACTS AND COOPERATION AGREEMENTS:

• supporting the R&T or R&D Project Manager regarding the IP stakes during the negotiation of the collaboration agreements,
• and during the contract execution in order to ensure that the IP protection is regularly updated

Desired skills and qualifications

• Completed studies (Master/Diploma) in engineering or strategic procurement or IP management or a related discipline, ideally with extensive knowledge in the fields of aviation and helicopters
• Several years of engineering or project management or contract negotiation experience with extensive technological content
• Extensive knowledge in the field of aviation with a focus on helicopters
• Intellectual property/patent experience would be a plus
• Ability to analyze/synthesize, work in a structured manner
• Customer focused and service oriented
• Language skills: German and English fluent, French an advantage
