Main Responsibilities – Acquisition and Editorial (books and journal projects)

• To acquire book/journal projects, through emails, attending conferences, meetings etc., from authors hailing from reputed institutions in Singapore and worldwide (via emails, phone calls or online meetings). The candidate must have a flair towards meeting authors at local events such as conferences, seminars and workshops. Sufficient guidance will be provided in this regard. • To plan and implement strategies in acquiring new book/journal projects based on the focus areas identified by the Management. Guidance will be provided by the Publishing Director and Subject Leaders.

• To learn the process of planning, controlling, and carrying out the editorial functions and coordinate all necessary actions which occur at any stage prior to receipt of a manuscript through finished product under the general guidance of the Publishing Director and Subject Leaders. RESPONSIBILITIES

This role within commissioning is responsible for working across and delivering independent and in-house commissions for Chinese (primary) and English (secondary) unscripted content.

This role is important to delivering our strategy, working with both In-House Studio and the External Production Houses to commission content based on a deep understanding of audience needs. The ability to commission across platforms as we move to an ever-digital world will be critical in the way audiences experience what Mediacorp has to offer.

You'll ensure that priorities and editorial strategy are aligned, also inspire and engage in-house and independent producers by articulating your editorial priorities, and work with them to create and develop ideas that meet our audiences' needs. We’re seeking freelance editors to collaborate with us creating a diverse range of content.

You will use your language skills to create texts covering a wide range of topics. Following our style guide and other quality guidelines, you will create and check responses that will form the “voice” of future AI. You will create and edit original, helpful, honest, and harmless responses; fact check existing responses; bring submitted texts up to our standards; and work directly with Team Leads to help provide feedback to writers and other participants to ensure they can regularly produce high-quality work.

• At least 2-3 years of professional experience in writing and editing text.
• A degree in communications, linguistics, literature, journalism, or similar.
• Native level of English.
• Willingness to learn new methods, ability to switch between projects and topics quickly and sometimes work with challenging, complex guidelines.
• A laptop, internet connection, availability, and enthusiasm to take on new challenges.
