CHEMIST TECHNICIAN

Where will you work: Onsite – Carlsbad, New Mexico (PO Box 71 - 1361 Potash Mines Road - Carlsbad, NM 88220)

The Chemist Technician is responsible for the analysis of all routine and non-routine shipping, production, development, and special assays submitted by the operation and any other samples as directed by the laboratory supervisor.  This is a salaried, non-exempt position working a 12hr rotating shift schedule.

• Chemical analysis of routine production samples.
• Chemical analysis of daily mine samples.
• Chemical and screen analysis of daily shipping samples.
• Maintenance of laboratory equipment and housekeeping.

What you’ll need:

• High school diploma required.
• Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry or related degree preferred.
• 0-3 years of experience in a related industry.
• 3-5 years of experience in a lab environment preferred.
• Working knowledge of MS Word, Outlook, and Excel.
• Basic computer skills are required.
• Must possess basic math skills and have a fundamental knowledge of the metric system.
• Must also possess the ability to solve problems and be capable of working without direct supervision.
• A fundamental knowledge of chemical and mineralogical relationships is preferred.
• Must have a valid driver’s license.

Chemist Technician Co-op/Intern

The Chemist Technician Co-Op/Intern is responsible for assisting in the analysis of routine and non-routine shipping, production, and development samples submitted by the operation as well as any other samples as directed by the laboratory supervisor.  Analyses include phsyical analyses (Computerized Particle Analyzer, Test Sieves, Dust and Degradation) and chemical analyses (wet titration, Xray Diffraction, ICP-OES).

What will you do? 

• Chemical analysis of routine production samples.

• Chemical analysis of daily mine samples.

• Chemical and screen analysis of daily shipping samples.

• Maintenance of laboratory equipment and housekeeping.

• Comply with Environmental Health/Safety, operations and other business requirements.  

• Engage in self-development to enrich your skillset to fulfill your career aspirations.  

What do you need for this role?

• Sophomore level or higher pursuing bachelor’s degree in Chemistry or related degree preferred

• 2.75 GPA or higher

• Ability to function in an industrial chemical and mining environment

• Student in standing at the time of the co-op/internship

• 1-2 years of experience volunteering, working with student/school organizations, or work is required

• Previous internship or co-op experience is preferred

• Reliable transportation and valid driver’s license - You will need to be able to travel to and from sites and/or office.

• Basic computer skills are required

• Experience working in a team environment is a must

• Familiarity with an industrial environment is highly desirable

• Effective verbal communication skills is a plus

• Physical work environment is occasionally outdoors with exposure to varying degrees of hot and cold environments

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

• In charge of color matching works in Singapore, customer service and technical support.
• Interact with customer paint engineer team and match the colors for the projects per their demands.
• Closely work with sales team to complete approval of designated color and secure more business.
• Collaborate with product development team and ensure product system design can meet up with customer's color demands.
• Provide necessary on-site service to assist technical and resolve color issues on customers' production lines.
• Collect color records during color developing process and periodically maintain color database.

REQUIREMENTS:

• Diploma and above in Chemistry, Material Science or related qualification.
• At least 2 years of experience in color experience, 3C industry will be a plus.
• Expertise in basic coating formulation and color knowledge and MS office skills.
• Good communication, strong team spirit and willing to take up new responsibilities.
• Independent and self-motivated individual who is able to work with minimum supervision.
• Ability to communicate in English fluently. Communication in Mandarin is needed as this role requires dealing with Chinese customers and counterparts.
• Highly adaptable to a fast-paced, dynamic environment and ability to perform under pressure.
