Lead Release Train Engineer
Common accountabilities:
- Has specialized depth and/or breadth of expertise in own discipline or function. Provides expert guidance, promotes innovation and formally trains groups of less experienced professionals.
- Has a broad understanding of the environment and uses it to improve efficiency, recommends solutions/best practices and influence the strategy of the department. Translates the strategy of the activity into a concrete action plan for the area, setting and monitoring targets for the team.
- Works independently, based on management directions. May coordinate functional teams or projects and serves as a best practices/quality resource.
Specific accountabilities:
Through his/her technical/functional expertise, their network and their understanding of the business context, the RTE Lead guaranties the efficient delivery of the ART mission and the creation of a more flow of value through the ART. Among his/her responsibilities are:
Coach the agile practices
The RTE is a servant leader and coach for the Agile Release Train and:
* Is a key change agent
* Create an environment of mutual influence, encourage personal development and support the commitment made by the train
* Listen and support people on problem identification and decision making
* Is responsible for implementing SAFE model best practices by federating & coaching train stakeholders on adopting Agile mindset
* Coach leaders, teams, and Scrum Masters in Lean-Agile practices and mindsets
* Encourage collaboration between teams and System and Solution Architects/Engineering
Ensure predictability of the train, availability and transparency of the train's SAFe artifacts
* Manage and optimize the flow of value through the release train;
* Assist tracking the execution of features and capabilities
* Budget definition and dispatch, implementation of the lean budgeting
* Provide input on resourcing to address critical bottlenecks
* Track and communicate key ART execution metrics
Facilitate Agile Release Train events
* Ensure Alignment by organizing & facilitating Program Increment Planning Events
* Facilitate System Demos and Solution Demos
* Establish and communicate the annual calendars for Iterations and Program Increments (PIs)
* Is the master of ceremonies at train level.
* Foster Communities of Practice and the use of engineering and Built-In Quality practices
* Summarize Team PI Objectives into Program PI Objectives and publish them for visibility and transparency
Ensure Quality of delivery, and leverage customer feedback
* Work with Product and Solution Management, Product Owners and other stakeholders to help ensuring strategy and execution alignment
* Facilitate PI Planning readiness by fostering a Continuous Exploration process which drives the synthesis of a Vision, a Roadmap, and Backlogs, and through Pre- and Post-PI Planning meetings.
* Facilitate periodic synchronization meetings
Manage risk and dependencies
Continuous Improvement
* Drive relentless improvement via Inspect and Adapt workshops; assess the agility level of the ART and Solution Train and help them improve
* Help drive the Lean User Experience (UX) innovation cycle
