CNRS@CREATE is looking for a Research Assistant – Human Geography/Urban Studies to join our SPACE project team.

SPACE PROJECT

The SPACE project is developing a research protocol for infectious disease prediction and prevention in Singapore. The project draws upon analyses of the risk factors and sociospatial patterns that drive dengue and COVID-19 transmission in Singapore, as well as the social and technical skills developed by individuals and community groups in response to disease propagation. Combining insight from the social sciences (geography, architecture and urban design, communication, economics, sociology, public policy) with biology (epidemiology, entomology) and computer science (artificial intelligence, biostatistics), the project will use the concept of “adaptive capacity” (AC) to explore the potential of community-based “latent social capital” (i.e. human, cultural, political, and social) as key assets for adaptive responses to health challenges related to dengue in its interplay with COVID-19.

The project brings together 23 researchers, 10 from France and 13 from five Singaporean universities (NTU, NUS, SUTD, SMU and SUSS). The research will be conducted in Singapore.

DESCRIPTION

We are seeking a Research Assistant to join the SPACE project on “Shaping Public Adaptive Capacity for Environmental Infectious Diseases”. The successful applicant will be working on the impact of digital technologies and artificial intelligence (AI) on public health within the realms of social sciences and urban studies.

The SPACE project brings together researchers from France and from five Singaporean universities (NTU, NUS, SUTD, SMU and SUSS). The research will be conducted in Singapore.

Job tasks:

• Literature search and review
• Secondary data collection, data analysis, including content analysis, thematic coding, and statistical analysis
• Contribution to qualitative field research (conduct face-to-face interviews), transcription and coding of interviews
• Regular update on the latest scientific and technological developments in AI, digital technologies, and their applications in public health
• Writing and preparation of research reports
• Assist in the preparation of presentations, posters, and visual aids for dissemination of research findings at seminars, conferences, and workshops.

EXPERIENCE & QUALIFICATIONS

• Bachelor’s (and preferably Master’s) degree in social sciences, urban studies, public health, or a related field.

• Excellent command of both spoken and written English
• Proficiency in one other Singapore’s official languages would be an asset.
• Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively in a team environment and meet project deadlines.
• Prior experience in research project management and familiarity with ethical considerations in research is a plus.

The international research team consists of two geographers, a philosopher, and an urban planning scholar. We are looking to appoint one research assistant in the short term, with the possibility of re-appointment in the future.

The major tasks include reviewing literature, collecting secondary data (city plans, news reports, and policy documents, etc.), qualitatively analyzing the data, and writing research reports. Other duties are contingent on the progress of the project.

Job Description

The Centre for Quantum Technologies (CQT) at the National University of Singapore (NUS), and French-Singaporean international laboratory (Majulab), are looking for a talented postdoctoral or PhD candidate in experimental physics, for exploring the fundamental and technological quantum resources of systems that are constructed around a high-Kerr photonic resonators – i.e. a resonator in which the nonlinearity strength acts at the scale of one or a few photons. Two research axes are currently in development: (i) New physics and resources emerging in the quantum regime of photonic bistability, and (ii) new paradigm for the measurement of quantum scale forces (i.e. at the scale of single photons recoil) in hybrid Strong-Kerr optomechanical architectures.

More specifically, the goals are:

• Characterise the quantum properties of a strong-Kerr microresonator in the bistable regime using classical and quantum light: e.g.: demonstration of a Dynamical Casimir effect in the jump dynamics, demonstration of a giant single-shot ultra-fast amplification of single or few photons.
• Participate in the development of a new type of hybrid Strong-Kerr optomechanical architecture by optical characterization and feedback (Collaboration for the fabrication: C2N CNRS, Paris-Saclay). Demonstrate the polaritonic-enhancement and the Kerr-enhancement of the optomechanical interactions in the system using externally applied classical and quantum-prepared radiation pressure.

Job Requirements

The candidate should have a solid academic track-record, and in the case of a postdoc position, a previous experience in experimental physics on connected topics such as: Quantum optics, atomic vapours and/or condensates, optomechanics of nano-microsystems, optical spectroscopy of solid-state nano-micro-systems.

The appointee will join CQT under the supervision of Dr M. Richard (Majulab & CQT affiliated). An exciting opportunity has risen for a highly motivated Senior Research Fellow to join the Singapore Institute for Clinical Sciences (SICS) to work with a collaborative and multidisciplinary team for the project “Completing the Picture: Strengthening Fathers" Roles in Early Child Health and Neurodevelopment Through Targeted Interventions”. The SRF will be responsible for leading data-intensive quantitative research on the interactions between familial environmental, focusing strongly on comparing paternal factors with maternal and other household member factors, and the broader environment (e.g. built and natural environment) on child health, well-being, and development. The SRF will utilize skills in big data management, especially harmonizing and linking geospatiotemporal data with longitudinal cohort data, as well as quantitative causal inference and quasi-experimental techniques, to produce new scientific knowledge, write manuscripts, create presentations and reports, and brief collaborators and other stakeholders (academic, government, community, industry, etc.) as needed.
