Hays Accountancy & Finance are exclusively partnering with a leading wholesale business to recruit for a dynamic & experienced Assistant Accountant for their growing finance team in Gloucester, Gloucestershire. Reporting directly to the Financial Controller, you will support in all day-to-day and monthly financial operations within the company. A varied and hands-on accounting role involving management account preparation, cash flow management, and preparation of various financial reports. Your new role
Your key duties will involve supporting the Financial Controller in delivering month-end processes and preparation of management accounts. Prepare and support account reconciliations of all ledgers, VAT returns preparation/submission, manage and review HMRC deferment account, and supporting with annual audit preparation. You will assist in the generation of daily, weekly, and monthly finance reports for all areas of the business, accruals and prepayments, journal processing, along with preparing/evaluating cash-flow forecasts and maintenance of the fixed asset register. You will support ad-hoc financial projects, process/system improvements, along with resolving any accounting queries. You will support the AP/AR teams on an ad-hoc basis when required and assist junior team members.
What you'll need to succeed
To be considered for this permanent Assistant Accountant role, you will need experience in a similar position, key MS excel skills and experience in a range of financial systems. You will ideally be AAT qualified, studying for ACCA/CIMA/ACA or qualified by experience, with a good understanding of bookkeeping and accountancy processes. You will have strong communication skills to build both internal/external relationships at all levels, good analytical skills, the ability to adapt to change and be a committed fast learner with previous experience working within busy environments. You will be used to managing workloads and meeting deadlines, with a proactive working approach to work both within a team environment and on your own initiative.

Your new role

What you'll need to succeed
To be considered for the varied Assistant UK Finance Manager role, you will need experience in a similar position, ideally newly qualified or finalist in ACCA/ACA/CIMA, with strong MS excel skills and trained in range of accounting systems. You will have high attention to detail and accuracy, with the ability to be flexible/adaptable to changing priorities. You will have the ability to work independently and as part of a team, be willing to learn and develop, along with having strong communication skills to build both internal/external relationships. Experience within a large engineering/manufacturing group and supervisory skills, would be advantageous but not essential.
