The position at CABR non-pay status is anticipated in February for one position, and April for the second position.
- Perform recurring building and/or utility maintenance and operation duties and assist journeymen and other higher graded maintenance workers in carpentry, painting, plumbing, roofing, electrical, cement finishing and masonry.
- Construct, install, repair and replace items such as doors, shelves, supply racks, hardware. Paint various types of structures such as interior and exterior metal, wood and masonry surfaces, and a variety of wooden trim and new and old cabinets. Repair and/or replace faucets, toilets, valves and troubleshoot minor plumbing problems such as change washers, clean traps, unplug sewage lines and tighten fixtures.
- Patch and repair roofs consisting of built up tar and paper, metal, as well as foam roofs and asphalt shingles. Mix and pour concrete/asphalt to repair or replace damaged portions of concrete walks and/or steps. Perform electrical tasks involving making repairs that can be accomplished by removing, replacing, tightening, splicing, and insulating defective wiring and fixtures. Perform masonry work such as maintain, repair, construct, and/or stabilize historic sites built of stone, mortar, or adobe and/or contemporary buildings, features or structures.
- Make independent judgments and decisions within the framework of instructions, accepted practices, and procedures. Follow and carry out assignments in accordance with established oral or written directions, or established policies and practices. Use mathematics to calculate and measure items. Read and understand work orders and sketches. Assemble appropriate tools, gear, and equipment necessary to complete daily work projects.
- Use and maintain tools and equipment, associated with the following trades: carpentry, painting, plumbing, roofing, cement finishing and masonry work. Use and operate a variety of light equipment including power wheelbarrows, concrete buggies, skid steer, forklifts and stake-side dump trucks. Operate motor vehicles such cars and pickups to transport tools, materials and equipment. Operate a forklift to load and unload supplies. Operate bobcat with attachments to move dirt, grading work, snow removal, etc. Perform normal operator maintenance on equipment such as greasing fittings, replacing belts, cleaning filters, changing oil, lubrication, adding fluids, or changing tires.
- Assemble appropriate materials and supplies necessary to complete daily work projects. Provides layout and selection of materials for accuracy, completeness and adherence to standards. Select and use materials related to carpentry, painting, plumbing, roofing, electrical, cement finishing and masonry trades.

Perform carpentry repairs to buildings and quarters such as constructs, installs, repairs and replaces items such as doors, shelves, supply racks, hardware, frame structures, windows, trim and cabinets; replaces defective siding, steps, windowsills and thresholds; replaces glass panes and damaged portions of concrete or wooden walks and/or steps.
Apply premixed paints or stains to masonry, gypsum board or wood surfaces; paints various types of structures such as interior and exterior metal, wood and masonry surfaces, and a variety of wooden trim and new and old cabinets; paints garbage cans, racks, and picnic tables and sign posts; assists higher-level employees by mixing or stirring paints, moving drop cloths and scaffolds, and cleaning walls in preparation for painting.
Perform plumbing tasks such as replacing hose bibs, valves, nipples, unions and elbows, fixtures, toilets, flush valves, faucets, and various types of pipe and copper lines. Cuts and thread pipes and winterizes water systems.
Other duties include repairing roofs, performing electrical repairs, and performing masonry work and repairs.
Physical Demands: Physical effort is heavy to moderate, and requires occasional lifting or handling of objects or materials up to 50 pounds, unassisted, following proper lifting procedures to avoid injury. Frequently required to stand while working, climb ladders or scaffolding, and bend stoop, climb, and work in awkward positions.
Working Conditions: Exposed to a variety of seasonal weather conditions, while working outdoors (temperature -40 to 90+ degrees). Subject to danger of falling from ladders or scaffolding. Exposed to dust, dirt, wind, and rain. May work with dangerous chemicals and around moving equipment, paints, solvents, etc. May be exposed to electrical shocks and biting insects.
